Anyone out there have any experience with getting their scars, facially (which is what I'm looking at) or elsewhere.

I'd like to know what the typical procedure is; duration of time between consults and actually surgery, recovery time, results etc.

I realize some of the things I ask are really individual but just looking for anyone else's experience.

Thanks!

Once upon a time a derm told me she could punch out a scar and take a stitch or two and, while I might get another scar, it would be smaller and less noticeable. I didn't think it was worth spending money on.

Are the scars raised or dented? Raised scars so very difficult to treat. You can try getting a series of steroid injections to help flatten them.

If they are dented and not large, subcision or excisions can be done.

I've had excisions done on some small scars. It does leave a line scar but it fades and its barely noticeable now. IMO its way better then a dent which can never be hidden.

I'd like to post a pic, which would be more helpful, but don't know how.
I've got a mix of different scars.

Hi truth, Here's how to do it:

1) Sign up for a free account at an image hosting site such aswww.photobucket.com
2) Log-in and upload a jpg of your image
3) Once the image appears in your album, if you hover above the image with your cursor, the preview will expand to offer sharing options that say Direct link, HTML and IMG. Click on IMG code to copy the image address and paste it into the body of your EDS message
4) Preview and/or submit your post

Thank you Havana8. (shite-it's huge! Don't look at this over breakfast..or lunch or dinner! Lol!)

Not a pretty pic but heck, it's my face! I'd like to thank CoverFX for helping me with my daily camo. Hahaha!!

Anyway, now everyone can get a basic idea of what I'm dealing with. I think at this point my skin really needs to rest. Hence the no surgery for a while, and I'd add derma rollers to that list. I don't want to upset my skin or potentially reawaken the beast that had lived within it for so many months.

any chance you can see a plastic surgeon? If you see them while the scars are newer I think they can fix them easier.

I had laser on a burn scar, just a portion of it to see how it would work and it looks better so probably will do the rest of it.

they also use silicone to flatten and decrease pigment. I've bought the sheets at Walmart and it works really well, you would be surprised really!

I've seen a wonderful plastic surgeon. My next consultation is April, but I need to leave the country before than...I think. I've delayed leaving for so long because of this infection.

The surgeon can't do anything till my skin calms down. If he cuts in too soon, the infection could still be there and literally explode, causing even more damage. From the research I've done, it could be up to a year before he can do any work.

The silicone sheets I have will not stay put. They annoy me. I'm looking for the best that's out there. Any suggestions?

Do those silicone sheets work on old scars? My sister had a Cesarean section seventeen years ago and she has always moaned that she can't wear bikinis because of the scar. Why do they work? It's always sounded a bit odd to me.

My burn scar is over 20 years old and wearing the sheet on it for a week dramatically lightened and smoothed it. I think they are good for both old and new.

I don't know how they work but I found this online

Silicone sheet technology is clinically proven to significantly improve the appearance of scars and has been used by burn centers and plastic surgeons for years.
