Approached by a friend this last week regarding Melaleuca products... Green products... for cleaning supplies, vitamins, some foods, and cosmetics... Seems very interesting... I HATE traditional cleaning supplies... they make the house stink! And I'm still looking for the best ever laundry detergent that doesn't make someone in the house itch!
Anyone use this? What do you think? |

My Aunt swears by the products. I was supposed to sign up but I didn't like the monthly minimum order. The liquid hand soap is great. I've had many guests ask about it. My cousin loves the laundry detergent and says it keeps his front loading washer fresh smelling. I wasn't thrilled with the tub & tile and shower cleaner. Didn't seem to do the job. the floor cleaner was fine. We have allergies and the products I used didn't affect us. Even the scent, which is clean smelling. I'm still debating switching over all my household products. I do hate "signing up" for anything. |

I joined for a while but gave up on it after about 3 months. I do really love some of their products, but not enough to meet the minimum order every month. The main problem I have is that melaleuca (aka tea tree oil) is toxic to cats, regardless of what you'll read about these being non-toxic products. That is the biggest reason I stopped bying them and opted out of the program. I just wish I had known that fact before I got involved, but fortunately there was no harm done. |

My friend had used melaleuca products a while ago. I liked them but didn't find them really different from any other "green" product. I think they've expanded their repertoire since then.
If you are looking for something that is totally non-toxic, have you heard of Pink Solution? I really love it. The only thing is that is made in B.C., and hard to get in the U.S. I happened upon it when they demonstrated it at Costco. The Costco pack is the best deal, because normally the 5 litre tub is $50 on its own, but they throw in a tub of Mother's Choice (heavy duty with pumice), a laundry bar (for rubbing on stains - they suggest to cut it up and keep some in your purse - it works like Tide Stain Stick), a teflon sponge and a scour sponge (for grills, etc.)
Here is the link:
http://pinksolution.ca/
It really has replaced everything for me. I use it in the laundry, in the dishwasher (with vinegar or jet dry), as a spray cleaner, as a veggie wash, and in the carpet steam cleaner. I have used it straight on iron stains in my friend's cabin (in the tub) and they came off with very little effort. My 2-year-old niece got a hold of a crayon, and drew on the one of the back cushions of her parents' ultra suede couch before I found out what she was doing. A couple of swipes with the pink solution and a rag, and it effortlessly came out. And it is lasting forever - I bought it a year ago and haven't made a dent, and that is with having given some (a sour cream tubful) to my sister.
So, sorry to hijack this thread, but if you seriously have allergies, you should try it. Or let us know what you think of the melaleuca if you decide to try it.
ETA: Oh! I did find a link for getting it in the States, but I don't know how much tax and shipping will be. They offer the combo pack for $55.

My sister-in-law uses Melaleuca products & really likes them.
The only thing I have used is their Renew Intensive Skin Therapy & it's probably the best body moisturizer I have ever used. It moisturizes extremely well without being greasy. It's a very long lasting moisturizer & makes your skin look healthy. Melaleuca states that this lotion is clinically shown to help moisturize even severely dry skin associated with eczema. HTH |

I have used Melaleuca products for about 2 years and I really like them! Especially the laundry products. We onlu use the laundry, kitchen and dental products. My family has sensitive skin and noses and these products don't bother us, however it did bother my parents so much they couldn't use the laundry products, it made their skin itchy.
I'm very intrigued by the pink solution posted by the previous poster, I may have to go to my local Costco and see if they have it. I would really like to find one safe product that really does everything from laundry to bathtubs.
I find that the Melaleuca products work very well and are very concentrated so they last a long time. I have a family of five and we have a hard time hitting the minimum each month. I do not use the makeup or skin care products or eat any of their diet foods. I really like their toothpaste, mouthwash and gum! |

If you want these don't sign up to be a distributor, just buy a few products from your friend. I did this for about 8 months or so a few years ago with them. I think I tried about everything they had at the time. I know they have new products since this time, but I found them to be to very expensive, plus the fact you had to order every month & if you didn't you got a shipment anyway of their chosing!
Things I did like & why: Toothpaste was wonderful. Both my husband & I smoke,I have dentures, he is natural teeth. We could both use this & it will clean your teeth like nothing else ever will. You could see the stain actually running off & he never had 1 additional cavity or problem while using it.
Laundry soap was wonderful also, you didn't have to use a bunch of it either, sort of like Amway was, a smaller amount was better.
They had a "degreaser" cleaner that was good to. I cleaned stoves, BBQ grills & everything with this stuff, kind of wished I had some of it right now to clean my cook top & grout in ceramic tile LOL.
Those were my favorite products, however the window cleaner I wouldn't give to my enemies LOL.... I thought it was the worst window cleaner I ever used, foggy, streaky etc, I could never get the hang of how to use it & not make a bigger mess.
Their skin care line at the time was minimal at best. I know the cleaner & moisturier were just that, nothing special at all. Vitamins etc, I tried when they were really new & just launching them, also nothing special, considering the cost of them. |

Hey everyone... thanks for the response... I went ahead and signed up... They are having a cheap membership deal right now...
I ordered only items that I actually needed... and even priced them against what I normally get. They were in fact cheaper...
Here's what I've tried so far...
Laundry detergent... Ok This stuff is amazing with regard to how much you are to use (1/2 oz per full front load) I didn't think it would work that great. I even tossed in some towels that had been wet and sitting in the garage for a few days... STINKY... and with a basic hot wash, no other products... Perfectly fresh smelling. A little surprised. Also washed some nasty chef pants... they turned out well. We've been wearing these clothes for the last week... and so far no bad reactions... (oz for oz this stuff does 2X's the amount of laundry of the brand I was using. I'm going to try their Brightening product and fabric softener on the next month.
Also tried the dish liquid. Nice, rinses clean, and quickly. So far I have not accidentally left a soap residue behind on a pot. My last dish soap, this kept happening. I can't see anything on the pot. It's rinsing clean, and my pasta tastes like detergent... BLECH... so far have NOT run into this problem.
Dishwasher liquid. Again, a product that you only use a teeny tiny amt... and the dishes are sparkling. I let my mother judge. The last "green" product I used, she actually threw in the trash when she was visiting. I have Clear glass dishes... They got the thumbs up.. No chemical odor while it's washing!
Anti Bacterial soap - very light scent. and FEELS good when you're washing. That's a keeper!
I tried the Renew Intensive Skin Therapy based on all the raves. I hated it the first application. It totally felt greasy... then I decided to try again. And the 2nd time, it just absorbed right in... So, this means for ME, you also only need a little amount... and my hands are softening up. (being a twin mom who has become paranoid of germs, I probably over wash my hands. I've washed to the point of cracking and bleeding in the past.) With 5 days use, there is a remarkable improvement. I'm running a test with DH who is a chef, and whose hands have taken turn for the worse with the excessive washing lately...
I got the kids chewable vitamins, which my kids will actually EAT! This is a big deal in the house of ICK! Reasonably priced... and seemingly cover all the necessities.
Also got the kids training toothpaste (no fluoride) They love the taste, which means they will brush... decent price.
And then 2 other products that I haven't used yet!
Ok... this is my first report... if anyone else has input I'm really interested.
I've looked at their cosmetics... they don't seem like anything special... seems like they could have fewer ingredients with big long scientific names. At the moment I'm more into the cleaning products... I know it sounds crazy... but I really can't stand the smell of bleach, comet or windex. And can I just tell you how many things I've ruined with bleach??? |

Hi Claudia,
I did the Melaleuca thing for about 2 years, only it really wasn't saving me any money. Because if you want to get the discount, you need to purchase a certain amount of "points" each month. They don't tell you that when they sign you up. You end up purchasing more than you actually need just to receive the discount. Just didn't end up making sense to me. Another thing about Melaleuca is that although they claim they are all natural, as does Arbonne and a few others, they won't disclose all of their ingredients. To me, that is just suspicious at best. I ended up bagging it and buying natural products that disclose their ingredients like Seventh Generation and a few other brands they are now selling them in Target. Just made more sense. Buyer beware! Aprile |

Agreed Aprille, not thrilled with the lack of ingredient lists on some products. They list on those that they have too...(food, cosmetics.) but NOT on those they don't have to. So... detergent...not listed... that does bother me... but it does work really well... and doesn't have any scent.. and is cheaper than what I NORMALLY buy... I haven't tried 7th Generation... Might check into that later... certainly not married to this company...
For the record it WAS disclosed to me that you have to purchase a certain amount.. but they don't talk much about it...
And Arbonne does list all their ingredients... but you have to get the list from a "consultant"... or it's on the product (obviously, you don't see that list until you buy)...
It's really frustrating how some of these companies do this... annoying! Agreed!
And as another pointed out the other day... you can get most of these products on e-bay... |

I think the minimum amount you have to purchase monthly was around $100 - I know my mom did it for years but quit recently because the lack of selection in the line. She had tried everything in the entire line and most of the products were nice but she was starting to find favorites in other natural lines too....she had nothing left to buy after a while! You can also get quality, natural, organic products in a grocery store like whole foods or choices. |

I was a Melaleuca distributor for 2 years and use its products at home. First heard about Melaleuca on Pissedconsumer website. I'm agree with you it's difficult enough to meet minimum monthly order. First I could manage that. But not now. But I'm still using its products and very pleased with them. |

I actually dropped my membership... I like the cleaning products. But they last a long time, and I don't need $100.00 worth a month!
Now, they do have other products... Food, I don't like them. Full of Frankenfood ingredients. Cosmetics.... Pa-LEASE! As if! LOL!
Now, the person I signed up under, set up an account for her sister. And several of us "share" the account. Her sister is responsible for the minimum. However, a handful of friends are "guests" on her account, and we can just call in the order. She gets the credits and discounts. But this works for me. I can just spend $20.00 for my favorite items and not even consider the rest. |

I've heard nothing but great things about the products - particularly their cleaning and laundry items. BUT ... Everyone I know who has used this line, ends up having to stop using it because of the high monthly minimums. I wish they didn't have that. I like the look of the items, but don't want to ever be roped in to having to buy a minimum in anything.
I am surprised they are still in business when so many people stop using the product because of it. |

Has anyone tried Melaleuca's vitamins and calcium supplements ....would appreciate your feedback. Does the oligofructose complex really work better in terms of our body absorbing the minerals? |

I did not try the supplements for any length of time..
So, I can't speak to them.
However, with regard to calcium. do some research. Make sure you aren't defficient in the minerals that help you absorb calcium properly... that can be a biggy, and people just take more and more calcium... but aren't absorbing.
BTW... re the product. The person I signed up under, actually had her sister create an account. And several of us "friends" can purchase under her account whenever we want to. So, I can randomly buy my few fave products... They get all the benefits with the account. That's fine with me. I get the discount, and don't spend $100.00 a month on stuff I don't use... |
