My husband is just the same.
I tidy up around the edges so when I'm in my swimmers I'm not sprouting but apart from that I'm natural.
He likes it.
Also, the idea of him having one is revolting to me. Iam happy with his hair |
Same thing here... my hubby said he wants a 'woman' not a child - says it skeeves him out - and I love his hair too - so luckily we found each other cuz 'au naturale' works fine for us! |

Hey everybody, listen up, this is important. I am using an epilator called Emjoi Optima. I SWEAR it doesn't hurt. The first time I got all freaky with it and drank wine and took ibuprofen. But the next time I didn't and it was just fine. I do my legs and bikini with no problem.
Now, the armpit trial was a disaster. I have a high pain tolerance but this was crazy and some of the follicles bled. I was shocked. But I still have some obsession that I can build up to using it there.
The reason I want to use it there and the reason this is important is this: It was a one-time purchase for about $70 (Ebay) and that's it, I'm done. I was shelling out way too much for waxing.
I think the only downside is the ingrown issue. But I've been lazy about exfoliating so I'm going to make sure I work on that part of it. But the constant use of the epilator, just once a week, has me hair-free.

I should add, I don't do any kind of brazilian with that thing. Just what ever would show when wearing a reasonable bikini or one piece. I don't know if I should giggle, cry or barf when imagining someone trying to get it all of with one of these. |

I have another model of the Emjoi that I use for that purpose (I also don't try to go for the whole shebang), although it does hurt when I use it. It's worth it, though, because I'm all set for a few weeks afterwards, and I figure the pain is no worse than waxing.
I always wanted to go to get waxed but was too embarrassed, so this works well for me. The only thing is that the model I have is extremely loud, so I wait until everyone's out of the house so that I don't get any raised eyebrows. |

It's true that you are least sensitive after your period. I've had my waxing done a few days before and also a week after... definitely to with after. Having it done just before was brutal. |

Oh, I almost forgot... another great use for Emu oil. I apply it once I get home and for a 2-3 days after. It's very soothing and I never get any ingrowns. |

if any of you ladies live in the san francisco area, I would highly, HIGHLY recommend Marilyn Jaegger studio for waxing. When I used to get waxed I would go in for an 8:30 appointment before work and be waxed, paid, have a cup of tea and out the door by 8:45. Granted if it's your first time it will take longer, but if you go every 5 weeks, they can fix you up in 5-10 minutes. Not much pain, and the employees are sweet. Also if you go in the evenings they have wine in the waiting room. |

Oh Waffle, you're my hero!
I live in the North Bay and have been checking out Marilyn's website for months, as I'd read some great reviews, but it's good to hear positive feedback from a real person! Thanks so much.
I'm shy about going, but would like to go before my honeymoon next summer and thought it may be best to go a few times first, just in case I had a bad reaction. |

marmur1, oh, go! If Amanda's still there, go to her, or see if you can get Marilyn herself. They are great and don't feel shy, they see dozens of yumyums a day. Umm...just don't be startled when they have you roll on your tummy so they can get all the way to the back (they're very thorough). It's a little awkward for you, but they could give a damn, they see it constantly.
Also, just be really upfront about what you want. I hate the unnatural looking landing strip, so I have them leave it as natural looking as possible up top and bare below, and they will do their best to accomodate whatever you want....and you might as well book some other services while you're there, because the salon is suuuper cute (little victorian with amazing decor)
Kind of in the middle of nowhere though (Laurel Heights). Go early for parking purposes. |

Awesome! Thanks again, Waffle! I'll have to see if I can get in with either Amanda or Marilyn.
Thanks for the tip about them being so thorough...it's good to know what to expect beforehand. I've never been, so I just assumed that if you wanted underneath done that they'd take all of the front off as well, so I'm so pleasantly surprised that you can tell them exactly what you want.
I'll have to break down and make an appt. Thanks again for the referral! |

I am very curious about getting a brazilian wax but I am also kindof scared of the pain. For a first timer, is it better to go to a professional to get it done or get some home products and do it myself? |

Professional, Professional, Professional!!!
If it's a brazilian, definitely don't do it at home. Remember that in order to achieve a true brazilian, you must wax very sensitive areas where you must be 10x more careful than if it were a traditional bikini wax. |

I would recommend going to a salon that specialises in Brazilians, not just your local beautician. They will make sure the area is clean before waxing; use different waxes on different areas and do a very thorough job. The first few times you have it done, some of the hair will start grwoing back staight away - don't give in and start plucking it! Leave it until your next wax and after a few waxes all the hair will be growing at the same rate. It's also important to moisturise with something like tea tree lotion and exfoliate once the irritation has gone down. |

Will a Brazilian wax make the hair that grows back thinner? Or eventually stop growing? I've shaved on occasion but I am worried the hair will grow back coarser. |

Sweet28, it will grow back thinner and become more sparse. I used to shave for years but won't go back to it now |

Pros can vary. But the cons of getting it done by a beauty therapist I can think of are pain, possible skin irritation (some people still get that when the waxer has done all the right things) and the money you spend (you have to maintain the result every few weeks).
If my boyfriend had one, I'd be very happy. But I don't mind if he doesn't. He is not very hairy and the hair "there" is very fair and fine. I think that looks nice too. I think guys with a brazilian are sexy and fun. But it depends on the person anyway.
I think in general younger women are more likely to have a brazilian and think it is a "must" than older women. And younger men probably expect that more than older men. I think you'd better epilate or wax it. Shaving will make the hair grows coarser (even though it actually won't become thicker but it will look thicker). Yes, waxing can make hair become thinner to some people but not stop growing eventually. The more you wax or epilate, the less pain you will feel gradually. |

I think epilating it at home would be much slower and more painful, plus very tricky to get it all, whereas a therapist takes it off very quickly. And regardless of how you wax/epilate, you will still get skin irritation. The pain does become more bearable, and you can always spray on some numbing spray before you get it done. I get it done every 6-7 weeks and I think the cost is worth it. |

Hi all, great topic! I'm talking myself into going for one of these, but I've never even had my legs waxed so am somewhat apprehensive.
Could anyone possibly talk me through exactly what they do, have visions of it being super-humiliating!
Thanks x |

I've never had a brazilian, but my girlfriend has. She said that at some point in the process, you end up on all fours.
If you've never had waxing done, I would strongly recommend that you do a traditional bikini wax for the first time and then see how you feel about it. |

You can keep your underwear on for a traditional bikini wax. |
