Hi All,
I began to notice some very faint (hardly visible wrinkles under my right eye (where you get the dark semi circle) around my birthday and I decided to try using different items. IT's been over a year and I can definitely say it's gotten a lot worse. The right under eye makes me look 10+ years than the left one. I'd like some suggestions - here is what I tried:
I've tried
1. caudalie premier cru (this began making them look more defined).
2. Vitamin E oil (can't be sure, + and - )
3. PTR daytime fusion retinol spf30
4. Burt's Bee's radiance eye cream (also made it worse)

Basically the lines which were non existent are now permanent-looking. That is if I put concealer under both eyes - you can see a lot more "creasing" and lines under the one versus the other.

I guess I'd just like a suggestion before I try anything else now. I got a murad radiance C peel and was about to give that a go but I don't want to cause more damage. Shouldnt a peel lie this help bring newer skin to the surface and hopefully push out the lethargic and extra layers that have wrinkled?

Could be irritation and/ or dehydration even mild dermatitis - all these will worsen the appearance of fine lines. If the skin barrier is damaged this lets water escape and allows chemicals access to living skin, so even fluoride and chlorine in tap water can contribute to irritation. Sad What is your entire routine at present, every product that touches the eye area? Have you tried focussing everything on anti-inflammatory actives and barrier repair, taking out everything that contains potentially drying or irritating ingredients? Are you consistently meeting or exceeding all your government's recommendations for healthy eating and lifestyle?

Hi Firefox! Possibly dehydration and irritation -
but the funny thing is the left eye's under eye area is completely fine.
I have never actually done anything to the under eye area
simply b/c it's a sensitive area and I prefer to leave it alone.
The occasional concealer but I refrain.
So far the only things I have used in that right under eye area are the
ones listed above. I wipe clean with remover oil/cloth gently.

I would definitely say dehydration may affect it but if it were that
alone then the left eye's under-area would also be just as bad and it isn;t.

I guess I am looking for something to help my right under eye to get back to where it was...
pre-application of above items.
What types of anti-inflammatory actives/barrier repair items would you suggest?
I've read about argan oil but since the oil's seem to make the area puffy and thereby emphasizing/deepening the wrinkle I refrain...
Where before stretching the area by hand helped smooth it out now those lines seem to appear to be more permanent and deeper and visible from a distance.

as far as the guidelines - yes most days Smile
Except the lower than recommended intake of water which I will up from now on.
But again - if it were that then the left under eye would be just as bad and it isnt.

Oh another thing - recently started sunscreen - use a mild physical spf40 and sometimes apply it under eye - but to both. No damage to Left side...

Always wear sunglasses...

Irritation/ dermatitis is often unilateral. Sometimes there is a reason such as sleeping position, the sun coming into your car window, how you touch your face when concentrating, but oftentimes there is no obvious reason why one side is different to the other. Ask anyone with eczema! Confused

Those are not all the products you are using on the area, they are the treatments you are using. What about cleansers, exfoliants, sunscreen, cosmetics? Which specific products need considering not just general categories, every ingredient in every product ideally. Argan oil is rich in oleic acid, which studies have implicated in irritation and abnormal keratinisation. Burts Bees has sesame oil as the second ingredient, again rich in oleic acid so this *may* be an issue for you. Also don't assume because you don't directly apply something to an area it cannot be the culprit: for example my elbow eczema - one side only - was triggered by shampoo bubbles running down my arm!

Which of the nutrition/ lifestyle guidelines are you not hitting daily? How many portions of fruit and veg, how many of oily fish and other healthy fats, how many portions of white/ refined carbs, 10,000 steps a day? Sorry to come over preachy but the requirements are minimums not ideals, so which you are not hitting could be significant. Embarassed For example not enough water would be a particular issue if, say, you also didn't hit nine fruit and veg OR live in a dry climate OR get plenty of vigorous exercise OR eat low carb.

Actually those are all the products. I know it's hard to believe but
I dont put a lot on my face - even when I wash - I do not put
any of the soap/cleanser on the under eye area. I may have only done this a total of 5 times in my life so far.
I rely on a gentle makeup remover wipe which I use very delicately under the eyes - and more vigorously on the rest of the face.
The list of products above are the only things that have been applied
ever to my under eye area.

Sunscreen yes, concealer sometimes although avoid on daily basis.
The sunscreen does contain argan oil - when you say that argan has been
implicated in abnormal keratinisation - what does this mean? Dark spots?
Pigmentation issues? Do you have a link to the study - I'd be interested in
reading it. I thought oleic acid was good? Wierd...

The only thing that has been a major change are the topicals I listed and the argan oil...

The not enough water is my main problem and I could use more veggies and fruits...

oh before I forget - I'm going to give the area a rest for now but do you think a vit C treatment would help bring new skin up? I've been reading reviews on the murad C radiance peel and I was thinking about trying that out if it would help rejuvenate that sensitive area...

It's up to you whether you believe this or not: products do not stay where you apply them, they move around your face on your fingertips, when you blink, sweat, produce sebum, sit with your face in your hand, scratch an itch or your hair brushes your face. And IMO only a very few molecules can cause irritation. As I said my elbow eczema was triggered by shampoo bubbles running down my arm, which I believed to be rinsed away immediately as I continued to rinse my hair. Wipes are known for being poor at cleaning and may contain potentially irritating ingredients themselves.

I've posted links to published research on oleic acid a couple of times before if you run a search. I can't see any logic in further destroying your skin barrier with any sort of peel. Shock Modern thinking in wound care (burns, cuts, grazes, operations) is to keep skin fully hydrated, plus either leaving a scab/ dead skin in place for as long as possible, or forming some sort of artificial scab with a medical dressing.
