Hello ladies!

Approximately 10 years ago I had a 'mini facelift' to address concerns of sagging/jowling. I have always had prominent cheekbones and a hollow appearance to my cheeks. I'm thin and have a narrow long face.

I understand that no muscles were lifted during my minilift. Only skin was removed from the front and back of the ears. I'm now 60.

With a mini lift, no incisions are made at the upper outer brow area of the face. The incisions are made at the front and back of the ears.

The 'midline facial support/anchoring imbalance' only at the ears causes the ugly draping.

This isn't the windblown results from a too tight facelift. This is draping and sagging.

My 2 concerns are these:

1. After 10 years, the minilift is long gone and I'm seeing a disturbing sagging/draping of skin most obvious when my head is turned downward or even when I purse or pucker my lips. The draping is noticeable when I talk. (I am often video taped and cringe when watching the playback) The draping occurs when I look down, or even just slightly turn my head to either side. The only thing that makes the draping disappear is smiling. I do a LOT of smiling (Which kinda makes you look like a ole lady who smiles at inappropriate times)

Of course, after 10 years, additional sagging has occurred, adding to the problem.

My question is, is it possible for face exercises to correct/improve the draping plus the sagging? And which face exercise program would be the most beneficial? I've been investigating face exercises for a while now and seems that the more you know, the more questions you have. I do not want to accentuate my already hollow cheeks. I would like to lift the sags and somehow improve the draping of the skin.

How can the muscles lift the skin back to its upward position if the skin is unevenly draped?

2. The area between my nose and lips really bothers me. I do not see my teeth when my lips are slightly parted. How can I lift this area? I've been doing some mouth/lip exercises and am considering the purchasing the flexaway.

My question is, would using the flexaway or performing mouth exercises interfere with the cheek issue as related in #1 concern?

I thank you all for your time and your thoughtful responses.

DRAPING = skin that has loose folds

Cheers!

Hello Thinkpeace and welcome!
Can't help much, I'm not sure what you mean by a "minifacelift"n that hasn't affected muscle... that is, if you had the skin -connective tissue- separated from the muscle and then pulled up toward the ears... I honestly don't know how the exercises could help unless over time the connective tissue has restored its attachment to the muscle. The human body's ability to restore itself is amazing, so it is possible.
I've just read post on the other thread of "Ageless" and hope you understand your issues are beyond just face exercising, I'm not very versed in creams and potions but by what I've read around here there is a lot of info about firming actives like Matrixyl 3000, DMAE, etc, ...

As an after thought,... to answer question two: I have never seen my top teeth when my lips are slightly parted... Just not long enough teeth or protruding enough teeth or short mouth to nose flesh issue to show teeth,... etc, etc,...
I used to "worry" about that when looking at models pictures showing teeth even when they were obviously not even smiling -look at the eyes to see if there is a real smile.
I would not worry about that issue of not seeing your teeth when lips ... the important issue is that when you smile showing your teeth the eyes smile too.

I’m not sure how they were able to say no muscles were lifted, as a lot of the muscles end in the skin, so even if they removed a little from the front and back of your ears, the skin that they would have stitched up would be pulled alongside the muscles attached to it.

I think drapping and sagging are definitely things that facial exercises can help with. Depends really on how much time you want to spend each day, and if you are afraid of pulling etc. There are lots of different programs out there that will do the job. I think you will find though that whatever program you do, they will encourage you to exercise everything, not just the problem areas because the muscles all are a bit like spaghetti and go in and out and all over the place. A great site I have recommended to many people is Tom Haggerty’s Share your Face (www.shapeyourface.com). He writes his instructions free of charge, and has 5 exercises in total that seem to work all the major groupings on his face.

Hello ladies,

Thank you for your responses.

I recently purchased Tom Hagerty's program and purchased the Ageless system last night.

In a 'mini' facelift, (to my knowledge), the muscles are not re anchored. The skin is excised around the ears, a section of skin is removed and the skin is reattached to the ears on front and back.

You're prolly right, some muscle tissue would HAVE to be included. When I imagine how skin and muscle look (for example) on a piece of chicken, the chicken skin is on top of the chickens muscle. I know chicken and human anatomy are different, but it kinda makes sense that a little muscle would be attached.

Thank you again. I think I have enough info now.

I appreciate your time!

Hi thinkpeace,
I think you will see results from any facial exercise program you choose. I know Carole Maggio (Facercise) has trained many clients who have had full blown facelifts and they still achieve great results. The muscles have memory and they will respond!! Another thing you might consider is microcurrent. If you hop over to those threads, you will see many EDSrs are having success using microcurrent devices for skin tightening, muscle toning and lifting and even restoring volume to the face. The process works a little differently than facial exercise, but it really does work! I recently started using microcurrent and really like it. I still do facial exercises, but not as often and my face seems to look more full now. I use my microcurrent with Ageless Secret Gold which really seems to amp things up. I have previously used ASG with the lightstim and mineral lamp and by far, the microcurrent/ Ageless combo works best. For wrinkles, many EDS'rs are using lasers like the Tria or Reaura with great results. You will get there!!! Wishing you all the best, Aprile Smile

thinkpeace the chicken skin/muscle analogy would be better when looking at the body not the facial skin/muscle.

In chicken and our bodies, muscles attach to bone and then skin sits over them. On the face, the muscles are DIRECTLY attached to the skin and to each other. That is why movement of the muscles creates facial expressions. This is also why toning and tightening of facial muscles can effect a lift to the skin.
