I want to add more antioxidants to this moisturizer (Eucerin Daily Protection spf 15).
I was thinking green tea, grapeseed extract, and maybe pomegranate. Would they interact badly with anything in it or deactivate the sunscreen actives or anything like that? (I'm new to this and pretty ignorant, in case you couldn't tell lol.)
Going further, what about 1-3% alpha lipoic acid? Do I need to be careful with pH with that one?
These are the ingredients in the lotion:
Active: Homosalate, Octinoxate, Octisalate, Titanium Dioxide. Other: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Urea, C18-36 Acid Triglyceride, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Dimethicone, Octyldodecanol, Sodium Lactate, Arginine HCL, Tocopheryl Acetate, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan), PEG-40 Castor Oil, Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Citrate, Lactic Acid, Carbomer, Citric Acid, Trimethoxycaprylylsilane, Benzyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Potassium Sorbate
Thank you very much! |

You really need to be finding a much better sunscreen. You are best protected at SPF30+
Zinc Oxide offers much better UVA protection than Titanium Dioxide. And the amount of Titanium Dioxide in that sunscreen is minimal.
No amount of extra antioxidants will make this a good sunscreen IMO.
Search the forums for "zinc oxide sunscreens" |

This cream is to protect against the uv one gets indoors through windows (I avoid sitting in direct sunlight indoors) and from fluorescent lighting. I figured spf 15 should be enough for that.
I just ordered high upf clothing to wear outdoors. I hate the feel of heavier sunscreens, so I decided protective clothing (high collar long sleeved jacket, gloves) would be preferable for me.
I would use an entirely different, high spf cream on my face and neck.
I know physical sunscreens are a better option, but they're also more expensive for use over the entire body. (Plus, I have yet to come across such an inexpensive moisturizer that contains only physical sunscreen). I feel a low-spf chemical sunscreen with antioxidants is a reasonable alternative.
I'm also considering adding coated micro zinc oxide to a moisturizer for under-clothing use, but I'm concerned about being able to create an effective sunscreen when I don't know hardly anything about how zinc oxide would react with other chemicals. |
