I think genetics, exercise, diet, and attitude. The right products can help enhance, but it starts from within.
"Don't worry, be happy!" Beauty always shines thru with a smile!

And judicious use of "enhancing procedures" apparently. Carmen admits to procedures in her biography (which was mentioned in the previous thread of this name that got deleted somehow.)

Choose your surgeon well so that you dont get "outed" by the scars later on when you start to lie about it too! Ppl become caricatures of themselves when they dont know when to say "when".

And don't go looking for bargains when it comes to cutting or burning your face. I know someone who got a facelift, laser resurfacing twice and hair extensions in her mid-60s and she looks terrible. She paid a lot less for all of that than you would if you went to good doctors, and it shows. She looks like a truckstop waitress who's been "rode hard and put away wet." Shock

Emmy Lou Harris turns 67 this year. For some, gray hair looks fab! Frosted eye shadow and bubble gum pink lippie not so much.

Carmen admitted getting procedures. She was underweight for many, many years and had very good self control to not overeat.
I think she travelled a lot that she didn't have time to eat.
She is a very beautiful woman.

Mid-60s is late to the party for an initial facelift if thats when she started with the upkeep.
Ideally, small tweaks beginning before the damage is evident will give best results and not as noticeable.

Plus, skin doesnt have the snap and give in the 60s that it did in the 30's. Healing isnt as efficient and the subq fat is gone by then in most cases if nothing has been "done" until then. Dont blame the surgeon.

Start early and keep up appearances with whatever you feel comfortable with. We have so much at our disposal now.

(But)… - “Does plastic surgery make you pretty? Jury’s out”

Reuters/Health by Andrew Seaman

People who get facial plastic surgery
may look younger than they did before the procedure, but that
doesn’t mean they’re more
attractive according to a new study.

Researchers found that a group of independent reviewers thought
plastic surgery patients looked about three years younger after their procedure than before. But
their attractiveness rating
for the patients didn’t change.

“It confirms what we suspected that
patients will appear younger…However we weren’t able to determine
statistically significant improvement in attractiveness in face altering
procedures,” said Dr. Joshua Zimm, the study’s lead author.

Yes, genetics do help, maintenance over the years helps, exercising, eating decently helps.

What doesn't help is having unfortunate health problems, car accidents, out of the ordinary stress from someone close dying or children going astray or family situations that can cause heartbreak and havoc in ones life that continue over many years. but if one can get away with a moderate amount of grief in life you tend to look better and then when you add the items in my first sentence, most people look pretty nice in their sixties.

Anyway, that's been my observation over the years.

I would say avoiding stress is really important...and if you've gone through crap. letting go of it and making efforts to repair damage..without doing things that add MORE stress (and that's not easy)...are key. Relaxation, nutrition, and sensible skin care are three easy, safe and surefire ways to help. All the other stuff is dubious in my opinion and has the possibility of either helping or hurting so caution needs to be employed.
