I had to do a lot of research on EDS and several other places to get most of my HG products.
Many of the recommendations that I got on EDS were from brands that I've never before heard of in the mainstream media (on commercials, magazines, etc).
While I realize that many good products are well-known, I've nevertheless observed a trend. In short, why do you suppose that some of the better products tend to be more obscure? It's almost like you have to be "in-the-know" to know about such products.
I first made this observation a few days ago. Although the thread is old, another member concurred with my observation:

VeronicaM,
You've got me curious: what HG products are you currently using that fit into this category of relatively obscure? |

Yes I'm curious too VeronicaM. Would you post your products? I am a new member and just starting to learn about skin care etc. Pretty much don't know where to start, but I have also noticed the same thing, that the less known products deliver better results and I'm confused why they aren't so known. Would love to know what you are using! |

Here are a few health, beauty, and makeup products that I love. I had to a lot of research to find many of them; I discovered many of them through web forums. They aren't as well-known (as, say, Olay or Neutrogena), and you probably won't see them in mainstream ads:
Paula's Choice Skin Balancing Cleanser
Makari's Night Treatment cream (helps keep hyperpigmentation and discoloration at bay)
Makeup Artist's Choice chemical peels
Meow mineral makeup
Innate Response One Daily Multivitamins
Vital Choice raw salmon oil (just like cod liver oil but with less vitamin A and more vitamin D)
Lip fusion lipsticks (got this as a gift on EDS and love it) |

There are other good products that I really like--though I won't call these products HG as of now.
Most of them, btw, are relatively obscure. |

My point is that, except beauty insiders and forums, these products don't seem to get as much recognition and publicity |

I often thought about that myself Veronica. It could be that people just don't know about these products, or not advertised heavily like the big companies, or perhaps they are small businesses trying to get their "foot" inside the door? I guess we'll never know. |

I think products that involve down time or take a long time to work don't survive in the mainstream and become obscure. A majority of women want to look good fast and don't want to work at it and go through "it gets worse before it gets better" phase.
Major cosmetic companies try to market products that plump skin and give visible results because your average woman isn't going to invest a year or two waiting for copper peptides to work…or do Obaji and have a peeling face for two months. |

Skin care is sort of like a hobby for me, so I take the time to do some research and I do rely on other members comments and reading the ingredients.
I personally like to lean towards medical grade skin care, but I love luxury lines due to the nice application on the skin. There are some lower price point that I really love also.
I think to be in the know of certain brands that you don't see much in fashion magazines is to be reading a lot of beauty blogs and forums. |

Very good observations. |

Hi veronica, could you please tell me more about Makari's Night Treatment cream. Specifically if you could tell me how it has helped you with hyperpigmentation? I have read all the reviews online and I am completely confused. Would love it if a cream like this actually did something for my hyperpigmentation. Nothing works for my skin!!!
thx |
