Hello all,
I had really good skin until I turned 23 and moved to New York. During March of last year, I had a bad breakout from a stressful life event and resorted to at home glycolic peels (Dr. Dennis Gross TERRIBLE idea). This left my skin extremely oily and sensitive.
From June of last year, I started my long journey to restore my skin barrier using mostly Cerave and ELTA MD products. Skin starting to slowly repair but it has still been in that sensitive stage, easily irritated and red all the time. I am scared I developed rosacea!!!
Well, a few nights ago I tried a new product that contained witch hazel in it, (I missed reading this ingredient on the label)And after two uses my skin is worse!! oily, red, irritated, and two new large pimples formed overnight!
This is driving me crazy. Is there any products specifically for oily, irritated skin other than Cerave? It is getting really hot and humid now in New York, and I feel that the ceramides in cerave are making me more oily. I am struggling creating a skin care regimen for my reactive skin. And the dirty new york city air is not helping!
Please advise |

Anyone pls? I don't want to resort to pills and antibiotics to "fix" this mess. |

Wish I knew what to suggest for you. My first inclination was for you to search EDS for barrier repair products, but I don't know how that would do with oily skin.
It sounds like you should go easy on your skin, avoid witch hazel, glycolic and other acids and use a gentle zinc based sunscreen without extra chemicals. The zinc may help soothe your skin.
I'd also recommend a visit with a dermatologist. It should be covered by medical insurance. You could then get some specialized recommendations based on your exact issues rather than us guessing. |

It might take a couple of weeks for your skin barrier to repair itself.
I have a very oily T-zone but yet my skin gets red and irritated for a short while each winter.
I eliminate all actives (any acid including C; BHA, AHA, etc.) I cleanse with the mildest cleanser possible. I found CeraVe PM a life saver this past winter. I also liked to spray my face with mineral water (for an instant ahh. But the moisture is very temporary.)
I would look for a simple SS and cleanser. I would use a bland moisturizer as often as needed. I like CeraVe PM (day and night) but others that help included Cetaphil, La Roche Posay Toleraine, etc. |

What about Every Lipid Serum (ELS) from Skinactives? That might help you. |

Please consider consulting another derm expert. You might have developed a very sensitive skin. |

Visit a derm if you can. Some times we try to our skin at home and only make things worse and spend alot of $ in the process.
Witch hazel often contains a good amount of alcohol which can make your skin worse. |
