Yesterday I applied Tea Tree Oil directly to my scalp without diluting it. I recently got sewn-in hair extensions, and some of my hair is braided (not the top part), then the hair tracks are sewn into the braided parts. My scalp was itching after 2 days, so to alleviate and prevent from more itching, I read about Tea Tree Oil---some articles say it's ok to use pure--most others say to dilute. Without thorough research, I applied liberally to my scalp. Later that day I washed my hair and had a therapuetic aloe rinse.
My scalp seems to be fine now 2 days later.
My entire head and my home smell like turpentine and formaldahyde! I tried massaging baking soda + water into my scalp, rinsed, then massaged Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with 3 parts water to my scalp, made sure I blew dry all my hair extensions, but the smell is so potent that my pillow reeks of this oil! Even inhaling this stuff is unbearable. However, my scalp feels fine.
I smell so bad that I cancelled a trip I was supposed to take yesterday.
Please, Anybody....Will I just have to wait it out? How long before the smell goes away? THought I'd wait until later in the week to wash hair again because I don't want to do any damage to it.
Also, I'm supposed to stay away from estrogen causing ingredients following a diagnosis 4 years ago with DCIS (Stage 0 BC), in which I'm on Tamoxifen. I sure hope I'm okay!
What can/should i do???
Looking forward to your responses!!! THanks! |

Where on earth did you buy the Tea Tree oil? Mine is from Holland & Barrett in the UK and I have never had a problem. I use a cottonwool bud and drip a little tea tree oil on it and apply it to the area. There is no turpentine or formaldahyde in my Tea Tree product made by Optima and sold by Holland & Barrett.
Maybe it is all the other products you added that has caused a reaction? |

I purchased the oil from Trader Joes, pure tree oil, just a small bottle. I used half the bottle throughout my scalp. Now my hair reeks of pine soll, turpentine. I just want to get rid of the smell. |
