Hi,I live in Australia and I have just started buying Thalgo products through EDS at a far cheaper price than what my skin therapist retails the products for in her shop. She has infered that this is not the "offical" Thalgo products. Has anyone else encountered this? My assumption is that this is sour grapes because I am purchasing products at a cheaper rate. Thanks Sally Question Very Happy

I would be willing to bet that EDS IS and official Thalgo retailer. Email EDS's customer support to find out for sure.

I can't believe she would say that...it is so ridiculous to me!! I am sure EDS is selling *real* products and wouldn't worry. I would be more worried aboout an esthetician that makes up lies to get me to spend more than I need to...

If EDS is selling Thalgo I am 100% sure it is the real thing. I would be cautious of the beauty therapist you are seeing. Sounds like you might be getting ripped off. Mad

I was also a little concerned at first as I'm also in Australia and some of the prices for Thalgo stuff on EDS are close to half the retail price at local salons. However, after purchasing Thalgo products (and numerous other brands) from EDS I'm confident that they are legitimate. I'm assuming EDS are just able to buy the products at a lower cost than Australian stores, possibly because of shipping costs to Australia and also because they would buy in bulk. In addition, my sister has just started working for a salon that stocks Thalgo and the mark up on products is crazy!! Cost price really is about half what we pay, so the salons are making a lot of money out of us!! I guess EDS is happier to have less profit per item and more sales and repeat buys because of the lower prices here.

Rolling Eyes I hate it when places try to tell you that anybody else who sells the product at a cheaper price must be selling a fake. What a load of crap! I do feel sorry for Aussie retailers though because they have to pay duties on the products (which is actually quite a fair bit) - then on top of that goes postage/insurance and whatever they need to charge to actually make money on it and then we pay the GST on top of that. Unless the government changes the duties that are being charged on cosmetic/perfume imports, it's going to be very hard for many of the Aus beauty salons to make $ off products (assuming too that more and more people will shop on the internet, which is not an unrealistic assumption).

Hey!
I am also in Australia, and one of my beauty therapists (i visit a few - keeps things interesting, but always at my favourtie salon)said the same thing, but that the reps for these products tell them to tell us that this is the risk (its all about the fear factor)-that we cannot be assured that the products are real. Its the oldest line in the book. In addition to this story, my other beauty therapist (my favourite who's always busy and darn it, about to have a baby), purchases herself from the internet, strawberrynet.com to be exact and swears by it. she says that with the exchange rate and Australian prices they have to tell their xustomers something if they want to make money from these products.

I say for your sake, and I tell all my friends, just be savvy - if it's not worth the trouble, buy it in the store, but dont whinge about the cost. if you want the same product, but half the price (almost), and can wait a few days, order it from OS - it's worth the saving AND the reduction in guilt (lets face it-it doesn't actually go away-especially when you just decide to buy more!! i love EDS!) Very Happy .
Thanks
