Hi
i have just booked in for a consultation for laser to correct my short sighted vision and was wondering if any of u had had this done. They will be using either the Lasek or Lasik technique at Optical Express.
Was it a good job and was it painful - would u reccommend it?? |

3 of my close friends have had this done.
All say they are glad and don't regret it.
1 girl sailed through had no problems at all and not really any pain.
1 girl couldnt open her eyes properly for 3 days, they were very sore and she suffered bad headaches, it was found that she had infections in her eyes, but antibiotics cleared it up, she also had blurred vision for a few days, but after 2 weeks she was back in work singing Laser's praises!
the guy said it was painful and had sore eyes, but guys are wimps!
They all don't regret having it done! |

Hi,
I had Lasik and I am very happy. Not only I dont need glasses anymore but I see better than ever before.
I had the procedre done twice though, cuz the first time it was undercorected.
It didnt hurt at all, but I have to say that it was uncomfortable, esp the pressure they put on the eye while its being done.
The most importaint thing is to go to a REALLY good place to make sure it all goes smooth and you know you are in good hands.
Ive seen on TV specials about places that offer Lasik and the doctors have just completed a simple training on how to perform a procedure but have little experience or knowledge on what theyre doing.
HTH!

I had it done twice because the 1st time they tried to get me w/mono vision and it did not work so now I have 20/40 in both eyes and just at work have to use +1 readers for computer work (Bookeeper) did not hurt a bit but go to someone that has loads of experience its your eyes and you only get one pair. My left eye is still a little dry but thats me, it was great and I was watching tv that night
46yr old (hence the reading glasses) but its worth it to spend other time without glasses. I paid $1,500 per eye |

I've heard you can get a 'halo' effect and other weird problems with night vision, but that they are relatively minor. Something to take into consideration, though. |

Thanks everyone for all ur replies they have been really helpful and reassuring, i can always rely on this forum for ur impartial advice. Well my appointment for consultation is in 3 weeks and then i was told the price quoted is fixed for 3 months so funds permitting i will get it done within that time.
Thanks again everyone for ur input.

I had my eyes corrected 2 and a half years ago and am absolutely chuffed to bits with the excellent results - better than 20/20 in both eyes. The only complication I had was that I was allergic to ingredients in most of the after-care eyedrops they gave me. However, we found one I could tolerate and things went fine from then on.
Pain-wise, I didn't find it bad at all. In fact, I only took the painkillers they gave me during the first day - and only then because they made me promise I would. There was an uncomfortably gritty feeling at first, but that didn't too last long.
However, I did feel nervous about damaging my newly treated eye for quite some time. I actually continued to wear my eye shields at bedtime and bathtime for a couple of weeks or so. It wasn't strictly necessary, but made me more relaxed. If you ask at the laser surgery, they should give you some extra tape so you can do this if you feel you'd feel happier.
Please make sure you really look into the subject before going ahead with laser surgery. Many people have a really good experience, but you must make yourself aware of possible complications and prepare yourself for the fact that you may still need glasses afterwards or perhaps further surgery afterwards.
I did find a fantastic site, detailling people's experiences - good and bad, but I've had a good look and can't seem to find it now, unfortunately.
A good place for reviews on the subject, with personal experiences and very useful links, is:

Good luck! And please let us know what you decide to do and how you get on. |

I've also had Lasik surgery, the first time in 2000 and again (for a correction) a few months ago.
From what I've learned, those with near or far-sighted issues can benefit greatly. But I have astigmatism as my main issue (a football shaped cornea, more or less) and Lasik still doesn't deal with that very well.
Within 2 years of my first surgery, 50% of the astigmatism came back. Within 5 years, 90% of it was back. When I got the correction in one eye several months ago, the center said they still haven't made much progress with astigmatism, so they can't guarantee it won't return again.
So, make sure you have an eye condition that can really be helped and it's very likely you'll be happy with the results.
Good luck!
