You may want to try Murad's oil-free sunblock SPF 15 sheer tint. It is actually quite good as it won't clog pores for acneic skin and it is not sticky.
If you go on Murad's own website, you can actually request a catalogue and samples from them for free (takes 3-weeks to deliver).
Another one you can try is DDF Sun Gel SPF 30 for better protection from sun. It is specially designed for ance-prone skin. |

Hi Melasmaisew,
I have tried many moisturizers with good SPF numbers on them ... and if the "sun block" is something you want to use every day ... I'd say stay away from all of 'em.
Every single one ... oil free or not ... caused breakout problems for me. I think the forms of the sun screens themselves can be a problem for acne prone skin.
However, mineral makeup has, by its nature, a natural sun screen ... and in over a month of using it, I haven't had a problem with breakouts with it.
Now ... if you're looking for an actual "sun block" ... like zinc ointment ... the mineral makeup won't give you that much protection. However, if you're looking for day-to-day protection from the sun, check into mineral makeups.
Just my two cents.

I have very acne prone skin too and the ones that have worked well for me are Vichy Capital soleil and cetaphil moisture 15. Both are photostable and didn't break me out.
You can find the cetaphil in almost any drugstore too and it's cheap. |

I hate sunblocks. The skin care line I use from Janson Beckett has an SPF in it (all I need most of the time). When I need more protection I LOVE PSF SPF's. They are so light and lovely. They have a 15 and 30 SPF. I don't have acne but you could discuss this with Darren who is an EDS member and owner of PSF. I have been meaning to write a review on this wonderful product. I tend to get very oily in the summer months. PSF SPF worked as a sunscreen and a very light moisturizer. My skin can breath when wearing it. It's a keeper for me.

Winnie, I hate sunblocks/sunscreen too, I would do almost anything not to have to use them! Short of never leaving the house, of course, coz I do have to earn $ to buy the sunscreen Since photoprotection is one of the best (if not *the* best) things you can do for your skin I am now searching for the one thats right for me.
Melasmeisaw, I am encouraging you to use sunscreen but I will not lie to you - it is really hard to find one that your skin like yours will like. BUT I don't believe its impossible. Try out as many possibilities as possible because the pay-off is huge. Think of it this way, if we can prevent sun damage there will be no need to repair wrinkles and hyperpigmentation later on.
You might find that chemical screens are irritating and that physical screens are occlusive. In addition, most sunscreen actives are oil-soluble. I am willing to build my skincare routine around sunscreen. To accomodate it and prevent irritation/breakouts I've added the following to my routine:
Decleor YY oil - to reduce sebum overproduction
Fancl Mild Cleansing Oil - to remove sunscreen thoroughly the very minute I get home and minimize the amount of time the sunscreen sits on my face
Various masks/exfoliants - aspirin mask, Dr H CC, Dermalogica Microfoliant, clay mask to unclog pores
I use mineral makeup too BUT I would not depend on it for sun protection and would never use it instead of sunscreen. First of all, the amount you use would in all likelihood not be enough to give you full protection. If you do pile mineral makeup on to increase the protection, you will probably end up with a mask! Not an attractive look Also, if your skin is sensitive many brands of MMU contain bismuth which could irritate your skin or cause tiny red bumps.
Sorry, I don't have a specific product to recommend as I am still searching. But keep up the good fight! Good luck! |
