I am trying to figure this out. Should I get a concealer that is lighter than my foundation or darker?
TIA,

When I use concealer I use a shade a little lighter then my skin. On those days that I am looking a bit tired it helps brighten up my eyes. I mentioned SKIN as I don't wear foundation often. The same applies when wearing a foundation ... slightly lighter concealer. |

If your foundation is a perfect match for your skin tone, one shade lighter is best. Also, a yellow-based tint will cancel out bluish (like undereye circles) or red areas (hyperpigmentation from blemishes) more efficiently, so you use less concealer. That in turn means your concealer will look more natural. HTHS |

DEFINITELY, go one shade lighter, never darker. Darker concealers will never blend in whether you wear foundation or not. And it will have the exact opposite effect of what you want and instead will call attention to areas you want to cover or de-emphasize.
I generally use concealer w/o foundation under my eyes and over my laugh-line area to cover discoloration from seborrhea. No one can tell I'm wearing it.
I figured that I could also use a foundation that looks good on me as a spot concealer too. But it doesn't work. I guess it's because you're supposed to match your foundation with the color of your neck, which is often somewhat different than your face.
Mary Kay makes foundations that are good as concealers (as long as you go one shade lighter).
Best,
