A question for the DIYers -- What's the shelf-life for the DIY version of Dr. H CC (a guesstimate)? I am thinking of making a big batch to give to family members, but I want to add a note re:when to pitch it. I'm going to assume that no one is going to keep it chilled (just to err on the side of caution). TIA! |

I am not sure about the shelf life too. This is why I usually make small batches. You can include a note saying its best to keep in the fridge and each time take out about one-week sufficient amount to keep at the bathroom. |

I'm not sure either on shelf-life (but I was thinking of doing the same myself as a gift).
I remember reading about tree-hugging... err 'organic' almond butter with tree oil. I can't remember which topic it was under, but the lady never put it in the fridg and it didn't go bad. Just thought I'd throw that out since it might make it easier to make for a gift as well. I was going to try it, but raw almonds are so much cheaper than the almond butter (over $7), but if it could save time for you during the holidays...what the heck, right? Take care! |

I bought almond meal (ground almonds) for $6.75 a pound from a local nut company -- it's a vending company... maybe you have a similar company where you live? Have fun with your project! |

Mine lasts about 3 weeks, probably 4 if I kept it in the fridge.
I think it's a great idea making batches up for friends and family, especially if it is packaged nicely. I use Neal's yard jars (my SO goes through the Honey & Orange scrub very quickly and saves the jars for me) for mine as I love the purple glass, wrapped in coloured muslin they would look stunning. |

For some reason, when I made mine it didn't last well. I made it then forgot about it for a week, when I saw it it was growing mold. Maybe it was the tap water I used and not distilled water |

Maybe try adding some vitamin c powder -- it's a great preservative plus it is good for the skin! |

Vit C is good but can become ineffective when oxidized, oxidized vitamin C may increase the formation of free radicals. Keep the Vit C in but also try using Vit E as the oil base. Its a natural antioxidant, so can act as a preservative. A combination of Jojoba and Vit E would be lovely. |
