As the topic title suggests, can you share your tips for long haul flights. My skin gets really dry and dehydrated and breaks out on the plane! And with the restrictions of how much liquid you can take on board, I will have to look for samples and decant my products.
My tip for long haul flights are to moisturise the whole body and face before leaving for the airport (I tend not to wear ANY makeup), take some herbal tea bags for when you're on board.
What products do you take on board?
Im thinking of taking- moisturiser, sunscreen, moisturising mask to leave on, eye cream, gentle cleanser, maybe decant the rosewater so I can sprintz my face whenever I need to. And Im not sure whether to take concealer |
Hi
I travel internationally a lot so I've got it down to a fine art, You really need to take the minimum amount possible, I personally don't think you will need sunscreen, a mask, eye cream etc. What I do is, remove all my makeup with a facial wipe, moisturise, I use the little samples of Decleor moisturiser and then use a lip balm. Don't use a spritz, they actually dehydrate your skin more than help it. Make sure you drink lots and lots of water, even if you don't want it, drink it, it will stop you getting a dehydration headache for a start. I also have a blow up pillow and noise cancelling headphones which don't drown out all the air noise but they certainly make it easier to hear the onboard movies.
Wear loose fitting clothes and comfy shoes, don't remove your shoes as your feet could swell, especially if it's a night flight and then you could have problems getting your shoes back on. I fly Business/Premium so take advantage of the 'free' glass of Champagne but drinking alcohol gets your drunk at altitude and dehydrated so if you can, steer clear of the booze.
As to the restrictions, it does vary slightly from where you're flying from and to, so check out the airlines website. Generally you can't take any liquid (that includes bottled water, so buy that once you've got through security) greater than 100ml and whatever you do have has to fit into a small ziplock bag, generally around 8" square. If your flight amenity kit does not have a toothbrush/paste, definitely take a small one so you can freshen up at the end of the flight.
As for sleeping, I can never sleep and I did take travel sickness pills once, only because they were supposed to make me drowsy so I thought I could have a decent sleep, it worked well too, I slept for hours, BUT it was really hard to wake up again and that's not good if you have to drive the other end!
Hope that helps. |

In the flight, before I go for sleep,I usually take off my makeup (if wearing any) and wash my face with soap and water. After I wash my face, I don't dry it. While I brush my teeth, the face dries. |
Just a word of warning for anyone here reading....I hope no one uses the water in the bathroom to wash your face and brush your teeth!!
I am a flight attendant (have been for 12 years now), and it is common knowledge now that most on-board washroom taps are contaminated with E.Coli.
I've flown almost every airline there is in my travels, and it almost always says "Do not drink from tap" above the sink, and that is why!! I never brush my teeth without a water bottle with me, and I would therefore not wash my face in that water either! Do bring along your own wipes if you're going to wash your face.
Great tips from everyone here, though.
But the best one from me is....wear sunscreen (with high UVA coverage) in flight (also on back of your hands, neck, etc), and put down your window shade. Keep your shoes on when you use the washroom, and bring hand sanitizer...planes are FILTHY.
A pashmina is also a great tip. Those airline blankets were never laundered properly anyway.
Also, bring a tiny pocket light; you have no idea how many times those reading light bulbs blow and it means you can't read throughout your flight in a dark cabin...very frustrating! |
