Unfortunaltely, red, peeling flaky skin is just part of the Retin A renewal process. What's happening is the skin renewal process that usually takes about 30 days is shortened to about a week, so the skin that usually flakes off normally unnoticed is peeling off everywhere. This is "normal" and will get better in time as your skin acclimates itself to the vitamin A. You may in time find yourself needing to move up in strength! However, it it bothers you, the best thing to do is back off in usage. Go to only 2-3 nights a week and when your skin adjusts bump up to every other nite. After years of vitamin A use, I still use only every other nite alternating an AHA in between. If this still doesn't help it could be that your skin is just too sensitve for Tretinoin use, try a retinol instead (I like SkinCeuticals and SkinMedica brands) these give slower results but much less irritation. |
