Thanks for the warning. I have very fair skin - the veins show right through - so I'll be sure to only roll when I know I won't be in public the next day. |
I actually plan to be in hiding for 3 days when I do a roll, though it's not too bad after 24-48 hours.
Here is a pic 2 or 3 days after one of my rolls...I only get this with a 3Line roller, but keep in mind that blood is a pivotal piece of the wound healing cascade so it's actually a good thing!

Has anyone tried both methods (i.e., aggressive infrequent rolling vs. light-moderate relatively frequent rolling)?
How did they compare results-wise? |
That is a question that only the professionals can answer after comparing different approaches side by side. But after reading every single article or research paper I could find on rolling, the wound healing cascade, and inflammation, that is the route I ended up taking.
I posted links to all of those articles here on EDS for those that want to dig in deeper. |
It's the first link listed here in the Dermarolling Information & Discussion Threads section http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?p=474343#474343

But others seem to be able to roll far more frequently and have no inflammation issues.

Do you think they could have the inflammation yet not know it? |
Probably...just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it's not there. But that's why you want to do everything in moderation and not go overboard. And some people are obviously more sensitive than others...I know Low had the same response I did to the .2mm roller.
I do recall the inventor of the dermaroller stating that he was not aware of any inflammation issues when using the .2mm roller, but he had just launched the .2mm roller around that time, and didn't have any studies regarding that.
My view is that people need to do what they feel is best for them based on their personal risk/reward comfort level, but pay VERY close attention to how their skin reacts. They also need to really understand how the whole dermarolling process works from a scientific standpoint to get the best results, and understand that results are NOT immediate (though inflammation is, lol). |

Thanks, Bethany! The reasons you gave make a lot of sense. Getting rid of residual inflammation and not interrupting the collagen formation are probably more important for me right now than another roll. Besides, I hardly ever get advice that matches up with what I want to do. |
I would take a nice long break, and revisit 3-6 months from now. Just be sure to keep using your Vit A and Vit C regularly so that you are fully prepped to roll next time you are ready. (I am prepping now for a June roll) |
