          Oneproudmom,

I have faced sort of similar issues with the skin - having acne (from facial hair) and fighting wrinkles at the same time. I have very reactive skin, with old/new acne scars (and getting electrolysis for facial hair), and a bit of thinning hair on my head in one area.

I mentioned what worked for me, and I had tried tons of staff. If you had medical issues (even if it is high blood pressure, or someone in your immediate family had an embolic stroke/mini-stroke before menopause) hormone replacement would not be an option. It is also unclear if you need it, if your acne started in 30ties.

Facial Exercise imho is extremely important. Good diet (smoothies, fruits and vegetables) and good supplements - imho are also crucial.

High Frequency Device - is fantastic for acne and at the same time helps with fight against wrinkles (www.beautifulonraw.com - check her website); and it also helps with thinning hair. I use mine daily.

LEDs - I would recommend Lightstim, but only if you are going to use it (it takes about 40 min for the face). I discovered that nothing would work if it is in the drawer. So eventually I bought one more, so I can do it in 20 minutes instead.

In terms of topicals - I had excellent results with Mandelic; and after many trials and errors I settled into Dr. Alkaitis/Beautifulonraw/Seachi skincare. After some medical scares I try to stick to more naturals/organic skincare in the quest to avoid absorption of chemicals thru the skin.

Also, one does not have to get everything at once, I accumulated many gadgets over time (most of them were useless), but found these few to be truly effective.

None of these things will give you an immediate gratification, but results will be forthcoming with effort and dedication (for me it was within a few months or sooner).

Sis - Tonya on beautifulonraw calls it Violet Ray (here is the link http://www.beautifulonraw.com/natural-beauty-store/high-frequency-device-violet-ray.html ).

It is also called High Frequency, D'Arsonval, etc. The one I have is the same one as on Tonya's website (by Garfield Paragon), others on this forum are happy with other manufacturers.

BTW, I also like Vaculifter and Tanaka massage, I was just not doing them lately.

And Kassy's generous offer shows you a truly beautiful person - inside and out! |

Kassy, you are such a wonderful Fairy Godmother, you all had ME in tears too!

All such great advice and welcome to the 50 club! I too joined it this year and completely understand!!!

I will share you you some of the things that I have felt have helped along the way, if that's okay.

I suddenly felt a mess and like I hit a brick wall these past couple of years. Getting on estrodial at a lose dose was like a fog lifting for me. I too had a breast scare and was hesitant at going on hormones since my hysterectomy, but the results have so far outweighed the risk and I keep everything carefully monitored.

Skin wise (having tried it all thru the years), the best professional bangs for the buck for me have been occasional fillers and botox (not overdone and not too often), my upper and lower bleph, , occasional microdermabrasion treatments and facials.

At home, I am a firm believer in the Clarisonic Mia to cleanse, and Pro-heal, Super and Active Serums STILL!!!! Follow that up with a good HA, preferably HydroCool Serum and a good night cream, eye cream. I am back doing Glycolic Peels, still use my BabyQ and am always willing to try new things!

Taking a good multi-vitamin, Omega(& Vitamin D internally if you don't get much sun) will also help your mood, or it does me. I also drink a green smoothie every morning. Excercise, even a little helps me immensly.

And lastly (and most importantly for me) laugh, smile and if you can't, fake it until you do! Mood shows externally as much as beauty. There were times thru the past few years that it has been really hard for me to stay positive but I have had to because people depend on me to be. So when I hear someone say how much they love my positive attitude or how I make them laugh then I feel a real accomplishment and it is a cycle that gives back. I know it's a lot harder to do when you don't feel like it, but believe me, people DO notice.

Last night with a group of girlfriends (and quite a few margaritas) we talked about 50 being a year of change, renewal and learning to feel free. We talked about what was BETTER now, rather than dwelling on the sagging, thinning parts that we notice. And it helped (and according to some, reading Fifty Shades of Grey, haha).

So celebrate the positive in your life, enjoy this year and those ahead, think positive and make it about the new you! |

With a $300 budget you could do one of of two things that I think would make a big difference.

!. Do obaji Nuderm. You have a lot of the gear to get you through it. It will totally make your skin clear and younger. It is a bitch getting through it..but it will be amazing.

OR

2. Stick with the products you have and spend your wad on botox. It will make you look much younger and lift your face... a very nice 50th birthday present to yourself. I would also buy a 12 or or 15% TCA peel from MUAC and do it after you get your botox to resurface your skin..so you have better looking skin and a youthful lift.

Happy Birthday.. |

Some of you are cracking me up..like turning 50 is the end of the world. It is just a number. chances are the most of the regulars on this forum have looked good during their entire journey of life because they work at it.

I see beautiful women of all ages..who take the time to look in the mirror and make it all better..no matter the age.

You don't have to fall apart and turn arthritic just because they turn 50! It is all silly. If you're lucky..you get to grow older not old..look at it that way. |
