Hi all - i have been using the ylang ylang oil for 2 weeks now but i still have quite oily skin by midday. How long does it take to work? I dont apply much - and i do it morning and night. I apply silk powder on top but it still isnt working that well.
any advice? |

Hi mjlover,
I've got oily skin. I've tried ylang ylang oil for a while and it didn't work for me, either. I wished I was one of those people that has ylang ylang oil working for them.
I'm not too sure why you are having problem, but here is my guess of why it didn't work for me. I'm guessing ylang ylang oil works by suppressing the oil production on your face. (Mind you, I'm guessing here so I could be wrong.) But because it suppresses the oil production on the skin too much (for MY skin anyway) and consequently drying out the skin, that my skin tries to combat it by producing more oily in order to retain moisture on the face. Hopefully I'm not confusing you. Basically, for me, my guess is:
-->my face feels oily
-->use ylang ylang oil to reduce the oil production on my face
-->ylang ylang oil "over" suppresses the oil production on my face
--> my face dried out
--> my face screams "I cannot loose more moisture" and thus my face produces more oil to prevent further moisture lost
-->my face tured out more oily then before I use ylang ylang oil
So I guess ylang ylang oil dried out my face too much (which means it's doing its job, but just does it over the threshold that my face can handle). I don't know if it's the same thing with you.
Though ylang ylang oil didn't work for me, I found that Decleor Aroma Purete Matt Finish Skin Fluid works for me. It wasn't able to keep the oil/shine away from my face all day long, but it did a pretty good job as far as I concern.
Hope my experience with ylang ylang oil help you in some ways. But I'm sure there are more experience members here on EDS forum who can help you out |

Hi mjlover,
Not a problem at all. Glad I can help out in some ways. I've actually tried putting on lotion after ylang ylang oil. However, it wasn't until I stop using ylang ylang oil that the problem got resolved. Weird eh? I was hoping ylang ylang oil would work its wonder on me like it did to so many other people. But I guess I'm not one of those lucky ones
If you are interested in how to treat oily/combination skin (if your skin is similar to mine), you can check out this following post I posted earlier. Ladies here on EDS forum gave some really nice suggestions. Maybe some of the suggestions would help you out

I'm in a similar situation. I've been told that it can take awhile for the ylang-ylang to have an affect, but I'm a very impatient girl
I've also started using Jurlique silk dust, but I'm worried that it might be drying me out too much in the morning and triggering more oil production. I was really surprised to see that the main ingredient in this powder that everyone raves about is corn starch. |

Hmm... I haven't tried Jurlique silk dust. I should keep it in mind when my skin is behaving better |

Have you tried Dr. Mist yet? It really is a miraculous little product, and it's cheap too! I just spray it on my face after toning, and it keeps me matte all day. As a nice bonus it helps with acne too.

Had the same problem with ylang ylang being too drying but found that is I use neroli and ylang ylang alernate nights it's fabulous. The essential balm is magical. My oily skin has settled right down and the original dryness with the ylang ylang is gone. I wouldn't give up completely on decleor just yet. |
