There's a positive mention of this product in another thread. (I was loathe to hijack that one, which was on another product entirely, hence this new thread...)
The active ingredient is "viatrozene." Upon googling it, I come up only with references to this product, so it appears to be a trade name. Does anyone know what it is? From the product description, it might be some form of retinol perhaps (and the Viterol A name seems to imply some relationship to Vitamin A). I wouldn't want to use it on top of another retinoid, if that's what it is.
I really wish companies wouldn't use their own trade marked names for ingredients in their ingredients list--it makes it so hard to figure out what's in them and how it might duplicate or counter-effect stuff in other skincare...just my pet peeve. (And while I'm on pet peeves, I also wish companies had to state percentages of active ingredients, so it would be easier to compare formulations, like Vitamin C serums usually do.) |

I'll be patiently waiting for that Fed Ex box of snow, because the hot flashes are coming fast and furious .. (Especially this week with a houseful of our NY/NJ relatives getting out of the cold...
Okay, this won't be as lovely as the one that got away, but here goes.
What is it;
Chemically, Viatrozene is a metabolite of vitamins A, C, E + D-Panthenol (vit B) These vitamins together comprise 16% of the formulation.
All together, there is 29% of active ingredients in a 1oz lotion.
The formulation uses a a "nanosome" (micro sphere) delivery system which enables the serum to penetrate to the deepest layers of the skin. The 'nanosomes' are 200 times smaller than a human cell and after penetrating to the deepest layer of skin, they release the active ingredients over a 15 hour period.
In my experience the results are cumulative, and you just will experience a nicer skin as time goes by.
It brings about skin rejuvination by provoking the removal of a very small amount of the skin's surface, which encourages cell replacement.
Active Ingredients in descending order;
- Almond Oil
- Nanosomes of Kinetin
- Matrixyl
- Ferulic Acid
- Grapeseed Extract
- Vitamin A
- Vitamin C
- vitamin E
- D-Panthenol (B)
- Gingko Biloba
- Chestnut Extract
Propylene Glycol, Polysorbate 80 + Methyl Paraben are the preservatives/emulsifier, and are in minute amounts at the end of the list.
What it does for our skin;
- Encourages cell turnover
- Minimizes wrinkles, dark patches and small acne marks, and prevents reapearance
- Increases fibers that support the skin, as well as elastin + collagen
- Smoother, softer skin + better skintone
- Increases skin firmness up to 22%
All this was measurable in 2 seperate studies available at the DS Lab website a while back when I looked.
Who it's for;
- Those who are 30 or over, who have visible signs of aging or sun damage
Please check with your Doc if pregnant! (Vit A)
When to use + precautions;
- It's recommended to use at night on a very dry clean face... (I on the other hand have found a way to make it safe to use for a C serum in the day, which greatly reduces the vitamin A, yet gives a safe, synergistic boost to my C..) See the DIY C serum thread for more, or if you're interested, I can paste the recipe here.
- Be vigilant with suncreen/MMU with broad spectrum protection, use when using this or any retinol product
- Expect some flaking/peeling till you adjust, that is easily removed with a microfiber cloth
- I know lots of you use Clarisonic, but unless you are already on a retinol, I would go very easy with that at first.
Okay, the masses are back from the beach and I have to boogey.... I'll check back in a little bit to see if you have any questions..
I love this stuff ..
ETA: The most important thing is you can get it here at EDS, which is the best price out there, especially when you consider the discount....

Please get this one.. Trust me, it's the bomb! You don't need to waste money on the 'eye' one.. Just add a few drops of water to this one, and you'll have the eye cream .. |

Overall, it sounds like a great product. Especially if you dilute it by mixing it with something else, so it's less irritating and lasts longer. First of all, I'm a little confused about the ingredients- I didn't know matryxyl was in there. Also, fragrance is in there as well. Is the ingredients listing you gave for the face or eyes?
(Face one)
Active ingredient: Viatrozene 16%
Other ingredients:
Deionized Water, Almond Oil, Nanosomes of Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, D-Panthenol, Gingko Biloba, Chestnut and Witch Hazel, Propylene Glycol, Polysorbate 80, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Fragrance and Methyl Paraben.

Hi Nimue, I listed the full ingredients from the insert..
As for fragrance, it isn't listed, but there is just a very faint, fresh kind of scent.
I use the one that says "Viterol A, Lotion for Signs of Aging" It's kind of confusing because it says 'Vitotrozene Gel' on there too..
The most important thing is just to get the one that says "Face".... The eye is really a waste of money IMO.. for that area, you can just add a couple drops of water to dilute it. |

But...but...wouldn't one meant to use around the eye area contain moisturizing ingredients that maybe the face cream dosen't have? Are you using it alone or applying another moisturizer on top? |

Personally I think "Eye Creams" in general are just a money making scheme and hogwash.. But of course that's only my feelings, which could be dead wrong.
What always worked for me (before I started making my own stuff), was to just water down a bit of whatever I was using for my face..
These days I don't have any need for moisurizing, but if I just want to give myself a pampering treat, I apply a light coat of Avocado oil, and then put a nice warm hand towel on, to push it in deep.
Most times, if you compare the ingredient lists for the same brand of face and eye creams, you'll find very little difference other than a smaller size and a higher price for the eye cream. (That's one reason it's so important to know your ingredients.. Then you can easily pick out the 'hype'.)
Again, just my opinion, and what has worked for me. |

If you are already using Retin-A, Green Cream or other potent retinoid at night, than you should be able to ease into this C serum in the A.M.
Here's what I'm doing if it helps, at this point in time;
3 A.M.'s per week I use the C recipe I posted
4 P.M.'s per week I alternate Retin-A or Alpha Hydroxy Souffle (It's a 12% AHA)
I like to keep changing things up, which seems to be keeping my skin very responsive.. I also have A.M.'s, P.M.'s or both, when I use nothing at all.
I also only use sun protection when I'm planning to be out during the day.. I like to keep my skin bare, other than the C serum or a little oil now and then.
Another thing that worked when I first tried the Viterol A (face), was alternating it on it's own, every other night.. So Retin-A, M-W-F, Viterol A T-Th-S and Sunday off..
Now that I put it in the C serum morning routine, I've only used it occassionally at night..
Oh yeah, if any of you guys use an LED, the C serum sparingly applied one hour prior to treatment, rocks it!!! It's worked for me anyhoo! My face actually *feels* firmer the morning after when I do this. (But that's for the other threads if your interested, I don't want to go off topic here.) |

Kassy_A:
Thank you for all your information on Viterol A.
I did not know this product until now. Do you think the Viterol A is better than Skinmedica A or Remergent Retinol? I have been using Avene Eluage without any irritation. Do you think the Viterol A is stronger than Avene Eluage which has .05% of retinaldehyde. I also want to try Retin A. Do you order it on line without prescription? Which website do you recommend to order from?
By the way, I have been using one of your receipt for the C serum. Thank you. Now I may have to try your best one with Viterol A.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

Hi Suk Han, thank you for the kind words ..
Getting Viterol A for Face right here at EDS, is the best deal;
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/ds-laboratories-viterol-a-p_7303.htm
I'm not really able to make a comparison for you, because although I've used the Remergent Retinol, it was only a sample, so I don't have an opinion on it.
In my opinion though, the Viterol A is much more than a simple retinol.. The active ingredients in this product really stand alone and can't compare to other retinols I've checked.. It's awesome stuff! What surprises me about it, is that it's only $35.00.
If you like my last C recipe, you'll love this one also. Also, I wholeheartedly believe in changing things up, so I alternate my C serum ingredients a little each time.. (Although, this one will remain a staple.) |

I have them, though I have only used them one time. I may eventually alternate them with my Retin A each night. And they are definitely affordable, especially with our forum discount!
One thing I did want to point out is that the Face Cream is 16% viatrozene gel, while the Eye and Mouth Lotion is 29% viatrozene gel. So it looks like the Eye/Mouth Lotion is actually the stronger of the two (surprisingly). But there are also some differences in ingredients, and in volume.

Hi Beth, If you still have the box/insert for "face", take another peek.... The 16% is the amount of the main active (Viatrozene gel), but all together with the ingredients I noted in the recipe post, there are 29% active ingredients in total. The ingredient list at the EDS store isn't complete, so don't go strictly by that one.
The eye cream has 29% actives also.
It's great alternating this every other night with Retin-A! I love this product.. |

Agreed...but the Viatrozene % is the driver for me since I would be using it as a Retin A alternative. But the other actives are also great.
BTW, I noticed that the Eye/Mouth cream is on sale at SkinCareRX for some reason for $21.95 (plus another 20% off with the usual coupon). I may pick some more up. |

Speaking of the alternating this with RA, I actually had more peeling/flaking, on the mornings following the Viterol application. I was very surprised, because I use RA .1% gel!
And on that note here is something else I'm surprised about.. I actually find the RA (get this from all day chemist), to not be the least bit drying on me .. I actually wake up with some oil on my T-zone.. I had more dryness from the .5 cream ..
Wierd things just seem to be par for the course for me ... |

This product sounds very tempting - but if you are already using Retin-A and do not have any irritation, why incorporate Viterol. Do you think there's any added benefit? |

If you are already using Retin A every day (or at least 3x week) with no irritation, I would stick with the RA. I can only use RA 3x a week (and am slowly working up!), so I am looking at options to alternate with the RA. |

Keliu, I fell in love with these ingredients. I actually found it while I was looking for a product that contained 'ferulic acid'.. I wanted to find a ready made product, with certain ingredients, that would compliment my DIY C serums...This fit the bill! The PH is low enough, the emulsifier is in there, and it has a bare minimum of preservatives, which enhance the stability of my C serum....(Besides the fact, I love to play with all this, as you are well aware .. )
Active Ingredients in descending order, 29% in total;
- Viatrozene (16%)
- Almond Oil
- Nanosomes of Kinetin
- Matrixyl
- Ferulic Acid
- Grapeseed Extract
- Vitamin A
- Vitamin C
- vitamin E
- D-Panthenol (B)
- Gingko Biloba
- Chestnut Extract
So the flavor of the month for me lately, is the C serum recipe I posted above in the AM about 3 times per week, and Retin-A and Viterol A (straight) alternating every other night.. I also take a break and skip a day (sometimes 2) where I use nothing.. Oh, and one or two mornings a week, I try to incorporate my beloved Alpha Hydroxy Souffle (12% AHA).
Even with all of this exfoliation, believe it or not my skin is in the best condition of my life.. On the very rare occassion, I feel a little tight or dry, I just apply a light coating of Avocado or Squalane oil.
My skin does best when I keep it guessing, so although my rhino hyde could take anything I throw at it, it stays most responsive when I throw in a curve ball. And it also seems to thrive on a less is more approach as well. |

Beth, I think you might really enjoy this product. Just try it on your 'off' nights for a couple of weeks, and see how it goes.
If you are up for a little experimenting, make the C serum, and use your LED half hour after it has absorbed .. YUMMO! |
