My hands get really rough in the winter, especially after I wash them. Anyone else has the same problem?

Use moisturizer or even moisturizing oils like olive oil and massage the hands. And wear a glove always.Try to avoid washing hands too much and if you are washing dishes etc you can do so wearing gloves. Prior to washing dishes use olive oil or as such then wear the gloves during the washing this will create a nice massaging action for the hands when you take the gloves off after washing you will find your hands to be really soft and nice and moisturized!.

A dry skin condition can mean rough, cracked hands and a flaky complexion that could eventually lead to excessive wrinkling.

For any dry skin product, choose essential oils that balance the production of oil on the skin and also are anti-inflammatory so that they'll reduce irritation and its characteristic puffiness.

The best way to treat dry skin is with essential oils added to a cream or lotion. Both of these contain water, not just oil as in salves and ointments. The water is absorbed by the skin to help resolve the dryness. Meanwhile, the oil in these products acts as a protective barrier to keep moisture from evaporating out of the skin.

Massage more hand cream onto your dry hands. Then slip on gloves for your hands overnight.
Use hand cream after you wash hands Every time.

It sounds like the consensus is oil and gloves. I found my cotton gloves, so I will start implementing this routine immediately. I can't stand this flakiness and rough feeling.

YES to the gloves! It really works.

I also find that slathering on Weleda Skin Food or even L'Occitane Shea Butter hand cream and then putting on the gloves helps.

Yesterday I tried a Japanese cream especially designed for dry, cracked, rough skin.. a common problem in the dry air of japan's winter It is called "yuskinA Family Medical Cream". I had heard of it before (actually from a flight attendant here on EDS)... but had never tried it.

The shop had a tester and I put some on my hands and it was so good that I walked out with 2 large tubs (one for friends in the US, one for my parents) and 2 tubes for us (even hubby wanted one for his briefcase)

OK, I am THRILLED to tell you that EDS is carrying this line!! Overseas "New Yuskin A" is called Yu-Be
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/yube-skin-care.htm

I would like to add a plug for their SENSITIVE range (would be great addition to teh EDS line-up) ... if the smell of the regular Yu-Be is too much this is a great option.
I have tried the lotion and it is lovely.. very light, no fragrance (but no horrid chemical smell some unfragranced products have) and no greasy feel.

The soap is also excellent as it does not strip the skin of its own protective oils. So if dry hands are a problem trying this might help. The liquid version can even be used on the scalp.

I have found that Neutrogena hand cream is pretty good. It's very heavy so I only use it at night but in the morning my hands are very soft and I don't need to use anything for the whole day afterwards.

Mine do too that's why I moisturize moisturize and moisturize. Sometimes they get so bad that I actually put a thick layer of hand cream on then I wear cotton gloves to bed. The key is to keep them hydrated.

I have that problem too.

I use the creams by BARIELLE...They are awesome!

1-Professional Protective Hand Cream
2-Intensive Hand Treatment Cream (comes with cotton gloves to heat up for 10 secs. in microwave & then sleep in).

I second what ceca01 said about Netrogena. It's the Norwegian Formula to be exact. But she's right. It is very rich and a little dab right before going to bed leaves your hands beautifully hydrated throughout the following day, even through the coldest days of Winter. I have used that handcream for just about 10 years now.

i have the same thing!!
hate it, and have been using every cream i can find, but they are still dry and now are full of wrinkles - it bothers me so much because my hands look 20 years older than i am.
i tried the gloves ages ago, and it seemed to work - will try them again - this has helped to remind me that they were so effective

i did find last time i used them elizabeth arden 8 hour cream (which i generally use as a lip moisturiser or on a burn - it takes the sting out) it worked well.
8 hour cream was originally created as a hand moisturiser to soften dry hands that had been working with horses and had become rough.

used with gloves - it will be a perfect and effective combination!

I use a moisture mask (for face) on my hands before I go to bed. I know it may sound wasteful, but it's much less greasy and I wake up with incredibly soft hands. A little goes a long way

Mine too that's why before bed I apply thick hand cream then 100% cotton gloves to encourage penetration of the product. In the morning my hands are so plump they look like new. I do the same for my feet since my heels get super rough. Body shop has great cotton gloves and socks.

Try a moisture mask. I got a big tube (for my face) for the winter, but I know I'll never use it up before expiration so I started rubbing the extra over my hands, knees and elbows.. The results are quite nice! Definitely worth a try if you have some extra lying around. Otherwise, I used to use olive oil and over them with plastic gloves before going to bed.
