Hi guys,
I am so confused. I am a major product junkie but today I did an overhaul and THREW EVERYTHING OUTTTTTTTTTTT....
I had to do it... so now I want to start fresh and buy EXACTLY what I need and nothing else. I am trying to simplify my chaotic life and by throwing out everything, I feel kinda liberated but now I need help on figuring out what I REALLY NEED.
So here is the run down:
-32 years young female
-medium to fair skintone
-slightly dry skin
-no visible wrinkles YET
-large visible pores on cheeks, broken capellaries on sides of nose
-I had red pigmentation spots on my skin, that get really if I scrub or use hot water (mild roseacea?? maybe)
-My background is Eastern European if that matters....
-when I was in Russia, a facialist there told me I have thin skin, but no one in the USA told me that.
-I love to take care of my skin... so I need suggestions for:
cleansers
sunscreen
moisturizer
eye cream
toners or thermal water sprays
masks
I dont have the book skin type solution by bergman (I think her name was, I believe I was a DSPT --- if anyone can give me some of her suggestions I will be totally greatful...
I really want something that works, so right now price range isn't as important as soemthing that will help reduce the redness in my face, thicken my skin, antiaging, antioxident, you get my drift, I just want to keep looking the best I can...
Thanks in advance, big time!! |

For sunscreen, try this thread.

There are several threads for eye cream on this forum. Try looking at those. |

Wow - good for you to toss everything...sometimes I look at all the stuff in my cupboards that I don't use and want to do the same...
I would recommend the following:
1) Sunscreen, SPF 30 at a minimum. There are a lot of good brands, so check the reviews here.
2) Vitamin C serum - you can DIY or go with Skinceuticals CE Ferulic or Skinmedica's, both are good products, but pricey. DIY is easy and you always have a fresh product.
3) Perhaps a retinol product. You may not need retin a yet, so I'd start with retinol. Since you have sensitive skin, start slow and don't use it every day. |

The most important nutrients for the skin are Vitamins A, C and E.
So I agree with ShastaGirl's recommendations. You need a good C serum (the good ones usually contain Vitamin E as well)- or you can make your own. And I would definitely start using Retinol/Retin-A.
For cleansing and moisturising, I prefer oils - there are many to choose from but I like Rosehip, Jojoba, Pomegranate and Olive and Castor Oil for cleansing.
And, of course, a physical sunscreen. |

I have skin very similar to yours. That's what I can recommend:
1.Cleanser : any mild cleanser from a good brand will do (for example, Dr Hauschka, Pevonia Rosacea line, Darphin, Obagi gentle cleanser, etc)
2.Sunscreen: I use Clarins Day Screen High Protection Emulsion - very elegant and protects well. Lots of other suggestions on the forum.
3.Moisturizer : since I`ve started Obagi I don`t need it
4.Eye cream: I love Valmont Elexir Eye cream most. It`s expensive, I agree, but I got tired of wasting money on eye creams. It lasts long since I use it only once a day.
5.Toners: Again any gentle toner from a good brand. I use Darphin and Obagi now.
6.Masks: I love lotion masks ( just search the forum) and collagen masks ( Valmont, Dr. Renaud, planning to try Cellbone Collagen mask)
To add to the list:
1)Vit C serum ( I use Skinceuticals C E Ferilic, other good ones: Vivier and Obagi)
2) Retin A ( 30s, I think, is the right time to start 0.025% Retin A ) |

I couldn't agree more on the Retin A (or 1% Retinol), Vit C E, and sunscreen! These are really the core basics.
You also want to go with a moisturizer that does not compromise your skin barrier in any way...that includes oils, Nia24, Every Lipid Serum (ELS), etc. |

I also agree. However, I am not as sold on C as I once was and think you need a combo of antioxidants in a topical product. But if you really want the bare minimum get yourself some Retin A and a good sunscreen. Those are the 2 products that have really been shown to "work". |

A ton of good ones or just a ton of products?
Can you name a few more, please, I'm not very fond of SkinActives product line.

Ok. Here are a few that I have looked at. The only 1 I bought was the DDF and I have not started using it yet, so I can't tell you if it is good or not. DDF Night Serum, Undamage face serum, Boske Dermaceuticals Molecular Repair, and the new Glytone products. These are just a few that I have on a list to try or check into further! |

I know that there're lots of products available, but haven't found any good ones yet. I'm not looking for outstanding visible effects, just knowing that it's loaded with healthy antioxidants is enough. But I want an antioxidant serum that absorbs well and doesn't sit on my skin like another layer of cream on the cake. PSF Berry Serum gets good reviews in terms of texture and ingredients.
By the way, Copper Peptides, ferulic, green tea, Vit C are all powerful antioxidants, so I probably get enough.
P.S.: I asked you a question in the My NuDerm Diary thread |

Juice Beauty Anti-Oxident Serum looks good - although I've never tried it.
I prefer oils for their antioxidant properties. Plus you can make your own "super serum" by combining oils of your choice - and they're very economical. I apply the oil, then massage it in with the Vaculifter, and blot off any excess with a tissue.
For a rundown on the qualities of oils you might find this interesting:

I do understand. That is the only problem I have with the CHAS is that it feels like I put an egg white mask on and left it on. I haven't found anything that I am totally in love with either, RussianSunshine, but if I do I will let you know! |

I've tried experimenting with all kinds of oils, Keliu, but I am just not that kind of perso nwho likes the feeling of having oil on the face. I've tried Camellia oil, Jojoba, Pomegranate, Kukui Nut oil, Decleor oil, Meadowfoam Oil, but they all just do not sink into the skin. If I apply them at night, I end up waking up with oily face I use very small amounts. Am I using the wrong oils? |

How about hemp? I keep a bottle in the refrigerator (warm oils just feel...ickier or something). It melts right in. |

No, definitely not, all those oils are fine.
You could try applying the oil and then applying a facecloth wrung out in hot water to the face for a few minutes to allow the oil to soak in.
I know oils aren't for everyone - but I seem to do allot better with them than thick creams. |
