Hi ladies,
I'm a newbie with a formulating question -- hope someone can help me out! I was told by a member at MakeupAlley that you can make a homemade retinol cream by combining the contents of three Vitamin A softgels with one ounce of generic cream to get a .6% retinol cream. However, the member wasn't sure what strength the softgels needed to be.
I am not math-proficient enough to calculate this myself. This is what happened when I tried: As far as I can tell, there are 3,333 IUs of retinol to 1 mg, so that for 100 grams of .5% cream (hypothetically, of course; I'd be making a much smaller amount in reality) you would need 167 10,000-IU gelcaps plus enough cream to make 100 grams. Since my math is so far off from that of my original source, I figure one of us has to be wrong, and it's probably me! Can anybody give me any guidance here? Thank you!!! |

How do you know what the percentage of how stong the product is if you don't know what strength your putting in it? Or is that just 0.06% of how much product is in there but not how strong? Sorry if I confuse anyone... |
