I am constantly searching for a good handream - they are either too greasy, too thin, too full of chemicals that actually dry youre hands out etc
So I made my own which I've been using for about 4 months now, I'm a part time chef so it is important that it works, what with all the handwashing I do:
Neal's Yard base lotion
vitamin E oil
Calendula oil (available from Neal's yard)
Lime essential oil
Lemon essential oil
I use an old glass face cream tub, I use 75% lotion to 20% calendula and 5% vit E. Add enough combined essential oils to give a nice fresh scent.
All my cracked skin between my fingers has gone thanks to this handcream.
And you can use calendula oil for anything makes a good facial oil, good for in the bath (cures dry vaginas, so I've heard - I'm too young for that!!!!!) |

Thanks for posting that rosebud. Have you tried adding any SPF to it by any chance? I'd love to finally find a good hand cream with SPF in it.... |

SPF!!!!!!
Do you know where I live
It would be like tempting providence - we do sun dances up here, it's forever raining
Last year we brought the sun loungers out of the loft in April - oooo it rained constantly then!
But yes add an SPF, let me know how you get on. |

Doesn't need to be Neal's Yard's Base lotion - any unfragrenced one will do, you could probably find calendula oil from on-line somewhere. |

Thanks Rosebud. Would you say this homemade handcream is as good as the Jurlique one? It's the only one good for my hands.

Hmm...some of these old threads are pretty good but wonder if anyone still follow them? If u have any left over plain yogurt, dab on the hands for 15-20 mins while watching TV. U will notice the effects after 3 to 4 days. |

That's a great suggestion jade321. When I have the patience (since I don't like the cold or the smell or messyness!) I mix a little skb with yogurt & a touch of lemon or lime for a mask. It really drinks right into my skin! Which I'm not sure how I feel about.
I mean it disappears and I've never known yogurt to evaporate that quickly, so all of that thick white goop must just go right in!
Anyway, my skin looks & feels amazing after that - plump & glowing and it seems like marks are less noticeable too.
I'm not sure whether I'll have the patience not to keep my hands busy (compulsive computer/texter here), but I'm absolutely sure my hands would love you for it. |

Homemade cream is not easy to make, I tried once and the cream and oil can't mix together. |

I'm interested in making handcream for my friend. I think it must be a useful + special present But what is the trick of mixing all the ingredients together? |

You need the correct emulsifier to keep the oil and water mixed in any cream, there are many simple and free recipes on DIY suppliers sites. one is:

Whenever my skin gets really dry, I just rub my hands with vegetable oil. It makes my hands feel much softer. |
