Hello Everyone,

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a natural sunscreen that can be used for daily wear- ie. not greasy! Also, I hate the "sunscreen feeling" if you know what I mean? So I guess I'm looking for light, and non-greasy... Is this even possible? Ha. I've tried Vive Sana, which I think is great, but again, it's greasy, so I prefer it for full days at the beach. I'm thinking about Marie Veronique Moisturizing Face Screen, also thinking about EltaMD UV Daily SPF 40 Sheer Moisturizer, or Eco Logical Face SPF 30. Any other recommendations? I'd really appreciate it!

Thank you,

Nicole

Hi,

The Environmental Working Group has a great website with the latest sunscreen reviews. I couldn't post the link, unfortunately...

It has rated sunscreens according to toxicity and efficacy, with a 1 rating being the best. It also has a section on non-mineral options if you prefer. I think it's important to find an effective sunscreen with a minimal level of toxicity which was really difficult until I came across this site. I have tried Elta MD UV Physical SPF 41 tinted sunscreen (not greasy, and I like the light tint) and the La Roche-Posay Anthelios line (recommended by my dermatologist.) The Anthelios line has a new one that is really fluid, light, and matte--it sinks right in-- but I need something a bit more emollient for my skin, so today I bought the Anthelios Melt-In Cream instead. Unfortunately, all of these have a bit too much chemical stuff in them for my liking, so I think I will use the La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 45 Melt-In Cream only on my small melasma patches, and go with my new choice, Colorscience Pro Primer SPF 30 mineral primer over everything then some mineral powder on top. I just got the Colorscience primer and haven't tried it out in full sun yet, but if you use a primer under your makeup anyway, it's quite nice. Smile My goal is to see if I can eliminate the chemical block and just go with the physical block primer without my dark patches getting darker... :P

Anything with retinyl palmitate will score pretty low. These guys are also really into the non-nano physical blocks.

I've been really happy with the DeVita product mentioned above. I live in a sunny climate and use retinoids and antibiotics daily, so I prefer to use an SPF 30 product each day.

That said, I am not an expert on the latest and greatest in sun protection, and I am not sure if it gives the broad-spectrum protection that is now being recommended. I've been meaning to research to see if I can find out.
