Hello everyone. So I am a 21 going on 22-year old male. I am getting the very beginning of nasolabial folds. I would say the one on my right side is where maybe a 26-27 year-old would have. My question is, I have searched THOROUGHLY through the internet, to find that many sa that Retin A does NOT help Nasolabial folds. However, many before and after pictures of Retin A that I see, show that these lines, as long as they were fairly minor or even slightly deep, would be, without a doubt, slightly, or even a good bit improved.
This only makes sense to me, as Retin A promotes collagen production.... Why else would it not help this particular area?
Do any of you guys have any experience with Retin A? Could you tell me what exactly it did for your Nasolabial folds? Regardless of what some others say? And also, if it did help, can you please say to what degree? And how deep they were prior to starting a long term Retin A regimen? Thank you all so very much |

Hi qowpele:
Sometimes the people with the answers you seek are not on the forum when you post so sometimes doing a search can help you start to get some answers while you give them time to see your thread--which could be weeks...or never if it gets buried by new threads.
Another usefulness in doing a search is you can find out which people have experience with Retin-A and can reach out to them directly by sending them a private message (the PM link below their names is the way to do it) and thus get their attention and maybe a quicker response to your thread.
The following threads mention Retin-A and some problems people have had with it or problems which people believe can be helped by it. So maybe they can start you off in at least knowing whose brain to pick via PM regarding its effectiveness on nasolabial folds:

Okay 22 is very young still. Do you sleep on your side squashign your face into pillow? That I know can cause NLs big time.
Now with NLs, I used to have them and was convinced I would always have them and only got rid of them in recent year or so, but I think genetics plays a huge role in how we age, so I would say look at your parents and see if they have them?
I've used Retin A and its great for reversing damage but it is a medication and to what degree it removes lines I'm uncertain. Yes it does reverse photoaged skin damage, but it does so over a long period of time and not over night.
As well as doing that for collagen production, you might want to consider (especially at 22 years) a Vit C serum and sun protection. If the NLs are really bothersome you could do some dermarolling but I wouldn't be thinking this is good at such a young age.

Just to be clear, got your PM and even though you are eating a lot of Vit C, it doesn't equal applying Vit C serum to your skin as a double whammy to get the best of both worlds. If collagen production is where you are convinced its at you need to look at topicals as well as what you are eating. Vit C and A are both great for collagen production but you may also want to look at derma rolling to stimulate the collagen making. |
