Dr Obagi's has a new product line, called: ZO skin health. specifically formulated to be your "anti aging skin care ritual"
*{i had put the URL here for you to read the info for yourself but this site will not allow me to post it}

i'm a loyal, happy and VERY satisfied user of "Obagi's nu derm system" along w/ retin A, SB's CP's, vit C and NCN's pumpkin peel, but....my facial skin and complexion is more radiant and evenly toned (no spots or discolorations) then my limbs. prior to starting obagi, my face was spotted like a dalmatian that was cross bred with a giraffe!!

because of this, i'm constantly looking for a good work horse of an all over body lotion(s). one that nourishes, exfoliates, softens body wrinkles, and lightens my acquired, lightly scattered small freckles from days gone by of a horrific 2nd degree sun burn (which i needed oral steroids to treat it with!) I'm really interested in his body lotion called 'Oraser' it sounds so promising. its expensive though, at 80.00/8oz. but so is lasering my arms and legs that i have been considering to rejuvenate them.
Oraser™
Body Emulsion/$80.00
Concerns:
Dryness, dark spots, loss of firmness and elasticity, and all over dull-looking skin
Solution:

* Hydrates immediately and delivers long lasting moisture
* Helps stimulate cell renewal
* Removes dead surface cells and smoothes rough, dry patches
* Improves texture, elasticity and firmness
* Reduces the appearance of dark spots and evens skin tone

Features & Benefits:

* Lactic Acid: proven to help exfoliate rough skin patches and retexturize the skin for firmer, smoother looking skin.
* Retinol: a pure derivative of Vitamin A and the most vital component of any anti-aging skincare program. It is clinically proven to be the most effective anti-aging ingredient to decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, even skin tone and increase epidermal thickness.
* Glucosamine: blocks the enzyme that produces melanin; reduces hyper-pigmentation and improves all over skin tone.
* Vitamin E: the antioxidant most frequently recommended by dermatologists to fight free radicals and repair damaged skin cells.
* Coenzyme Q10: essential for healthy skin. Natural CoQ10 levels decrease with age, thus these powerful anti-oxidant coenzymes must be supplemented to fight free radicals and reduce aging symptoms.

How To Use:
Dr. Obagi recommends massaging all over body AM and PM. For maximum anti-aging benefits, use as part of a ZO Skin Health™ Program.

Hello!

Thank you all for your interest in ZO Skin Health, products developed by Dr. Obagi and his clinic in Beverly Hills (the Obagi Skin Health Institute). He's very excited about the launch of the new ZO line, which he promises to be the most effective line of skin care products sold through traditional retail channels (unlike Obagi Medical Products, which are sold through dermatologists and plastic surgeons).

Just about everything that Dr. Obagi does is innovative--he was at the forefront of the whole anti-aging skin care trend, and created what has become the leading brand of professional skin care products.

Just for clarification, there is a difference between his original (Obagi NuDerm) and new (ZO Skin Health) lines. Obagi NuDerm causes redness and peeling--for maybe six weeks-- while it renews skin and stimulates new skin cells. No doubt about it, it produces some impressive results--that's what Dr. Obagi is all about.

But even if you're on the Obagi NuDerm regimen, Dr. Obagi recommends the use of some ZO products to calm the skin, reduce redness and exfoliate those flaking cells. If you want some of his specific recommendations, let me know.

The new ZO line works by stimulating cells to renew and recharge themselves--thereby replenishing collagen and elastin, and restoring firmness and smoothness. The products feature high concentration of stabilized, time-released retinol. You may feel a little tingling at first, to waken the skin up, but there's no lasting redness.

One of our most popular products is the ZO sunscreen called Oclipse--and it just won the most innovative cosmetic of the year!

If your concerned about price, (and who isn't these days?) check out the ZO Jumpstart Kit - you can find it at the ZO Skin Health website. It's a great value, and powerful introduction to Dr. Obagi's newest system.

I'm not an expert on all things Obagi, but I have been working with him at ZO Skin Health. If I can answer any questions for you--or even if I can get him to answer any questions, please let me know! Thanks again for your interest.

I'm no expert on blogging, but I have lots of experience with Obagi products (both personal and professional). I could not have survived on the NuDerm regimen without ZO Skin Health Exfoliating Polish. I swear, the shower was the highlight of my day. All ZO Skin Health Exfoliating Polish does is polish off the dead, peeling skin. But it makes you feel like a normal, healthy, and young person again! My skin never looked so good--at least for about 6 hours--after that I'd start peeling all over again. But the benefit is: I couldn't have stuck with the NuDerm regimen without it.

As for the other products, I appreciate the fact that you're not willing to compromise results for the sake of short term comfort. Dr. Obagi is all about results; therefore, on this question, I deferred to him. Based on his experience, ZO will enhance the results of NuDerm, and improve the comfort. You'll tolerate the NuDerm the system, and enjoy the results, much better.

If you're on maintenance, I'd recommend any one of the three products--the Ossential Growth Factor Serum or either one of the Ommerse products--they calm and nourish the skin. Hope that helps.

Hi, bushy, So you're another nightowl, like myself.

Yes, the new ZO line targets anti-aging. Like the original Obagi line, it can be used as a system, but doesn't have to be. It works by awakening dormant skin cells to resume normal functioning, and thereby replenish collagen and elastin.

It doesn't have to be used with the original Obagi regimen at all. But a few of the products (as mentioned) will greatly alleviate the redness and discomfort associated with NuDerm. Hope that helps.

There are a couple of products that Dr. Obagi uses in his practice to make Obagi NuDerm a whole lot more user-friendly. While peeling is a necessary part of the skin renewal process, you can get rid of the flaking with ZO Skin Health Offects Exfoliating Polish. Use it once in the morning in the shower--you'll love it, I promise. I couldn't have survived the 18 week regimen without it.

To reduce the redness, he recommends either ZO Ommerse Daily Renewal Creme--it has some special natural extracts to soothe the skin and reduce irritation. It has a creamy texture. Or you may like ZO Ossential Growth Factor Serum--it's a gel--and has two peptides in it that were specifically designed to reduce redness and calm the skin.

He's been using the ZO Ossential Growth Factor Serum for several years, and his patients love it.

I purchased the jumpstart kit and have just started using it. I thought I would give everyone a mini review. The kit comes with 4 products: exfoliating cleanser, growth factor serum, radical night repair, and sunscreen. Note, these are not full size products (I did not pay attention and was surprised by their size!) I cannot report if these are effective products as, again, I just have started using them.

The exfoliating cleanser is a gel cleanser with blue microbeads. This does a great job of cleaning off sunscreen, and leaves no residue on the skin. I have normal skin and found myself feeling a little dry feeling after washing with this.

The growth factor serum is also a gel. It comes in a jar. You depress the top part of the jar and the product dispenses in the middle. Very sanitary as you never touch the product until is it out. This absorbs in very quickly and leaves skin feeling nice and soft. I find if I use a topical C underneath this, the growth factor serum has a tendency to remain tacky feeling for a while, but that does not last very long.

The radical night repair is a yellowish looking, light cream. This product goes on nicely, and, again, leaves a very smooth feeling on the skin. No sting at all (but I do not have sensitive skin).

The sunscreen - this is my favorite so far out of all the products. It is tinted and matches with my medium/light olive skin exactly. This has a great slip and feels very nice on the skin - you forget you have sunscreen on. Best feeling sunscreen I have ever worn. I have not had the opportunity to test how effective this is, as we have not had many sunny days recently in FL! If I don't have any new freckles pop up, this is a definite repurchase.

I would say that all of the products are very cosmetically elegant. They leave your skin feeling nice, soft, and smooth. I'll update once I have used all the products up.

I had to stop 2 dys ago my NuDerm maintenance. All of a sudden my face turned bright red and hurt like you know what. I was using the Exforderm every third night as well and the tret/blender the same way not on the same days. Everytime I put the exforderm or anything on my face it burned. Iam taking a break until my skin calms down. My sun damage is gone and that was my main concern and my skin is even toned. I will still look into the jump start kit unless you guys think I may be just to sensative I was fine during the initial 18 weeks but maintenance just is not working out. Cleanser/toner/clear/ss all fine not tret/blender or exforderm. Thanks for any feedback that you guys and Donna can give-Dale

First let me admit that I'm not an expert on the NuDerm regimen, but I did ask their National Trainer and the guy responsible for clinical protocols. So here I'm just the conduit for information. Sometimes stopping the program completely can cause the skin to react, but a transition to maintenance should not cause any problem. They agree with rileygirl--hopefully you've continued with sunscreen and not introduced any new products. So the recommendations that I were given are:

1. Since you're a redhead, are you also fair skinned? Frequently Exfoderm is not recommended for fair-skinned redheads, so you should stop using that at this time.

2. Depending on the severity of the redness, stop using the Retin-A/Blender for about a week. You're right; it's time to give your skin a break.

3. The Cleanser, Toner, Clear and Sunscreen are all OK.

4. Consider getting some Ommerse Daily Renewal Creme to calm the reaction. (of course, by the time you get it, hopefully your reaction will have already cleared up).

5. You can begin the Jumpstart Kit after your skin has calmed down (because of the high concentration of retinol, you shouldn't introduce it until the redness has cleared up)

Hope that helps!

Donna

So far Iam loving the Daily Power Defense and the Overnight Recovery Cream. The Daily Power Defense is light and sinks right in I have VERY sensative skin and it does not burn etc at all but I can feel my face and it still looks smooth. i use this before my Obagi Healthy Skin SS. At night I have been using the OVernight Recovery Cream and my face is glowing and soft in the am. I will be using this every other or 3rd night in addition to the Retional/Blender combo that Donna advised. I laso plan on getting the Essential Growth Factor to use at night that 1st then the Recovery Cream. I have stopped using the Clear and Exforderm and these products should keep all my NuDerm results great-Dale

Hi Bethany,

The technology question is a bit more involved than the usage question on Ossential Growth Factor Serum. Let me work on it and get it posted some time tomorrow or over the weekend at the latest.

Justin

Just a reminder to please not forget about this! Very Happy

Hi Bethany,

There are really two areas where the technology has changed skincare as we know it: delivery/stability systems and ingredients. It’s the combination of these two advancements that has allowed Dr. Obagi to create a retail line with efficacy that sets new industry standards. Quite frankly, we have a bit of an advantage because ZO Skin Health was developed in the past year. It’s next-to-impossible for older brands to reinvent and reformulate the products to keep pace with changing technologies. All of the following are incorporated in the ZO product line.

Delivery/Stability Systems:

Believe it or not, the airless pump was the most important stability advancement for skin care (that’s the jar with the disk that you compress—the one that you like so much). Exposure to air (also called oxidation) is the primary reason why many active ingredients destabilize (it’s the exposure to air that causes hydroquinone to turn brown, retinol and ascorbic acid to degrade, etc. ) Because of this, many manufacturers have been forced to use either very unappealing packaging (metal Glaminate tubes), or use clinically insignificant concentrations of active ingredients, or avoid them altogether. The airless pump (used for our Oclipse sunscreen, Ommerse and Ossential products) totally eliminates that problem.

The other big improvement is polymeric entrapment systems and silicone elastomer systems (both anhydrous and emulsified), which enable the use of higher concentrations of cosmetically active ingredients like retinol. Advances in liposomal and nanosomal delivery systems led the way to greater efficacy by ensuring intact penetration of delicate ingredients (peptides, enzymes, etc.). Micronized dispersions of mineral sun protection ingredients paved the way for higher SPF in cosmetically elegant formulations.

Ingredients:

As you said, retinol is very important, and its availability to use in higher concentrations was the turning point that is taking efficacy to the next level. Advancements in science brought us synthesized growth factors and peptides versus the ones derived from human tissue. Enzymes, co-enzymes, and ceramides brought us DNA repair, increased cell energy, and aid in maintaining barrier integrity.

As for how ZO is using these technologies to deliver efficacy, let’s look at the Ossential Radical Night Repair as an example:

Radical Night Repair: 1% retinol entrapped in a polymeric delivery system incorporated into an anhydrous silicone elastomer system. We all know Vitamin A works well with Vitamin C, but the two ingredients generally don’t behave well around each other at active levels. Using entrapment technology and an anhydrous system, ZO was able to include a strong stable dose of Vitamin C in the product at the same time as 1% retinol. In the past, while both retinol and vitamin C have appeared in the same formulas, one has always been at the higher concentration and the other at a very, very low concentration. Lastly, because of the anhydrous structure of the formulation, no preservatives are utilized in the formula.

At the risk of being too technical, it’s great to have the opportunity to explain this — because it truly is what makes Dr. Obagi’s new products so exciting and so effective.

Please let me know what other ZO products you would like information on with regard to technology and ingredients.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Justin

Hi everyone,

As always, thank you for your feedback on the ZO products, in particular the Jumpstart Kits.

First, let me say that the kit is designed to last 30-45 days (depending on how it is used and areas applied to). The reason for this timing is to get a complete round of cellular turnover on the products. Will the products plateau in results after 30-45 days? Absolutely not! Improvement will continue through 8-12 weeks at which point there may be an opportunity to titrate up (if using Radical Night Repair or Retin-A on alternate nights), incorporate additional stimulation or activation products, or if you’re totally, completely happy with the results, just begin a maintenance plan.

So… let’s discuss the observed results from the first four weeks of being on the Jumpstart kit products. First and foremost, it’s important to differentiate between (1) current or recent NuDerm users; (2) people on a NuDerm maintenance plan; (3) people who have never used NuDerm. For each of these, your baseline is going to be different. I know a number of people on EDS have used or are using NuDerm, and I have to say, your observations above with regard to how long it will take to see results are dead on – because of the starting point of your skin. For the uninitiated in the realm of products by Dr. Obagi, the reaction in the first four weeks to the Jumpstart kit can be much more dramatic.

We can talk about #1--what current NuDerm users can and should experience with ZO separately. (That’s because it’s a little more complicated, and depends on what products you’re using). Generally, though, while a few ZO products can and will enhance your Obagi regimen, the ZO Jumpstart Kit should not be used in conjunction with NuDerm during the first 18 weeks.

People who are on #2--an Obagi maintenance plan can expect to see visible results in months 2-3 as noted above. These people, like rileygirl and redhead, who are accustomed to stronger doses of retinoic acid (and supercharged Blender) have already retinized their skin, addressing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines with strong topical results and will now benefit from ZO product’s ingredients which work synergistically with maintenance products. Rileygirl mentioned above receiving a compliment after using ZO products for a month – for her skin having a healthy glow. Radiance, glow, overall healthy appearance or vitality is an improvement the more initiated skin can see in the first four weeks of using ZO products in conjunction with or as maintenance for a medical prescriptive regimen. Because the prescriptive regimen is aggressively addressing the appearance of wrinkles, the visibly noticeable results from the ZO products will take a bit longer to show as the peptides and growth factors work synergistically to aid in the restructuring of the dermal matrix and production of collagen. Products like this working from the inside out take a bit more time for the results to be observed topically. If it takes a bit longer to see results from ZO products, you should be congratulated, you’ve been treating your skin well.

People who have not been stimulating their skin with Retin-A or Obagi products (#3), may have an acclimation period to ZO’s Jumpstart Kit while their skin becomes retinized (a state of mildly disrupted stratum corneum and increased cellular activity). For people with this starting point, the results observed in the first four weeks can be significant and sometimes startling. The uninitiated may suffer the purging of their skin as the higher dose of retinol starts clearing out debris and initiating increased cellular turnover. Skin that is also not accustomed to every day sunscreen protection (at an SPF of 30 or higher) can see a change in visible pigmentation after the first round of cellular turnover. Some people starting out on the Jumpstart regimen can experience some redness from the Radical Night Repair, similar to starting NuDerm, though not as extensive. The Growth Factor Serum’s synthetic peptides and growth factors, while working synergistically for greater results with the Radical Night Repair, can add to the increased cellular turnover and result in some flakiness as more skin cells are shed. All of these are natural responses by the skin, and settle down as the skin becomes healthier (as many of you here on EDS know).

For many just starting out on the ZO Jumpstart products, they will be learning lessons many here on EDS have already experienced and have offered guidance on to the uninitiated. This forum is a great resource.

I hope this helps. I’ll address what you can expect from some of our other products in a couple of days.

Best regards,

I am trying both the hand kit & the facial kit & really like both. There hasn't been time enough to see any dramatic difference (those days may be over for me anyway! Sad - plus my skin is in good condition to start with). Anyway, even if it was awesome, I had to pay UPS just under $200cdn for brokerage & taxes. That's on top of the retail cost of the products. Until someone can retail this in Canada (Holt's or even better EDS) I will most certainly not bother to repurchase.
BTW nordstrom.com delivers only within the US.

RuthMarion--I agree, those kinds of fees are HORRIBLE! So we checked them out to determine what the problem is. In this case, we can't blame UPS or USPS--it's only their job to collect it at the border; they profit from only their standard shipping costs. ZO doesn't charge sales tax on orders shipped to Canada or assess handling fees, and in fact we never see those miscellaneous import charges. So we can blame it on governmental taxes and brokers fees. That's also why our products cost so much more in certain European and Asian countries, because retailers have to try to recoup those costs.

Here's what we found:

Our products are made in the USA, so duty should NOT have been assessed.

The GST in Canada is 5%, on top of that, there's a provincial sales tax, which can be as high as an additional 8%.

So on a Jumpstart Kit ($250)--depending on the province, there would be about:
Tax $ 18.15
Shipping $18.00
Brokerage fee $44.37

Obviously the brokers are profiting nicely. On top of that, there's a currency exchange factor (currently about 7% premium on the US$).

Sorry, these factors are out of our control. Other than resenting taxes and fees, I wish that we had a better solution. If you can review your invoices, and we can check it out from our end, please let us know. Thanks.

Does anybody know if EDS wil be selling ZO products?

There is a thread in the EDS Lounge asking about lines people want EDS to carry...there are 6 requests for ZO on the last 2 pages (and that is just from people who post here)

http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=7937&postdays=0&postorder=asc&&start=475

Maybe EDS and ZO can work something out...it would definitely provide a more cost effective delivery service for people in Canada, and give international buyers a way to actually get the product since ZO doesn't ship outside the US and Canada.

Hi, Bethany and lifecoach:

We are contacting EDS about stocking our products, so at least they'll be available in the US and Canada, hopefully soon. Our contracts with the likes of Harrod's and Selfridges (where they'll be available on November 1) in England, and retailers and distributors in certain other countries, prevent us (or other e-tailers) from selling direct. Thanks for the interest though, and hopefully we'll I'll be able to update you as soon as the ink on the paperwork is dry.

I was resisting for a while, but I have to say, I am really disturbed that the sunscreen is 85$/oz. That's insane! With such an expensive sunscreen, I can't imagine that users are applying enough of it regularly that it's effective.

We're supposed to be using 1/4 teaspoon of sunscreen just on the face to get the full protection that advertised. I'll be generous and suppose that the 1/4 teaspoon also includes the neck and hands. There are 6 teaspoons in an ounce, 6*4=24, which means that the 1 oz is enough sunscreen for about 3 weeks. And that's in the winter, when we don't have to reapply or cover much more than the face and neck.

As for me, it looks like I go through 2 oz of sunscreen a month (and that's in the winter) so I can't even imagine how the zo eclipse sunscreen can be a viable product.

I thought I would pop in and see how people are doing with their new ZO products. I have been using almost the whole line since September Embarassed so let me know if I can help with anything!

A few tips:

Exfoliating Cleanser - Don't get the beads in your mouth (I've done this), in your eyes (haven't done this yet...give me time), or forget to rinse well under your armpits where they like to gather in friendly little groups. Rolling Eyes

Radical Night Repair - Keep in mind this contains Vit C, so you don't need to apply that too. If you find that it is caking up on your fingers a little, you are using too much! (I learned this the hard way Embarassed ) I typically use 2 pumps for my face, a pump for my neck, and a pump for my chest since I am trying to repair some damage there. Be sure to massage it in well, and wipe any residue off on the backs of your hands. (why waste it? Very Happy ) FYI...I have had a hard time layering this over anything, period. (ex: I tried putting my Vivite Vibrance on under this...it was a no go).

Growth Factor Serum - Less is more in this instance. It says in the instructions to use sparingly, and I read somewhere that using too much can actually cause a decline in results. Shock I put mine on after my RNR, and use one pump for my face and some of my neck, and another pump for the rest of my neck and my chest.

Daily Power Defense - I like this much better than the Remergent version! I use one pump for my face.

Justin: A Remergent product seller told me that the Remergent DNA product was light-activated, and you needed to wait 10 minutes before applying any sunscreen. Can you please weigh in as to if this is the case with DPD since it is using the same technology? Thanks!

Oclipse - I typically use about 2.5 to 3 pumps to do my face, including eyelids. If you do not put on any makeup over it and happen to notice that you look shiny, just rub your fingers over it lightly and the shine is gone. Don't ask me to explain why it works...I don't know, but it does. Maybe it's like rubbing velvet in another direction? Confused

TE Pads - I just got these for the first time, and really like them thus far. They seem to be like Stridex Pads on Steroids! Of course, the real test will be to see if I have any zits over the 6 weeks. (I am hoping the answer is NO!)

HTH! Very Happy

Lou, I believe Justin said they will be switching the kits out every so often. I know it is here in this huge thread somewhere! There is the new DNA kit available now. I don't think the jumpstart kit is available any longer.

Sunscreen should be applied every hour.

Does this mean that we have to "re"-apply sunscreen every single hour? I am using the ZO sunscreen and don't always reapply until the end of the day as I work in an office. Sometimes I do reapply before I go out for lunch if it is sunny that day. Am I doing something wrong? Should I reapply sunscreen more often even if I stay indoor most of the day?

I would assume that you would reapply only if you were out in the sun. I certainly don't reapply sunscreen every hour in my normal office life. Just my opinion, but I don't think you are doing anything wrong, and I don't think you need to continually reapply if you are indoors most of the day.

I agree with rileygirl, but if you do go out for lunch it probably wouldn't hurt to reapply sunscreen before you went out.
