A few other things that help my face to look plump and unwrinkled-ish (it's all relative !!) even though my body is slim...
spirulina (it's my 'magic bullet') i use at least 2 tablespoons a day ..it has protein/omega fats/chloropyl all in one product.
chia seeds (protein/minerals/vitamins.omegas) i use the whole seeds soaked..and ususally add nut/seed milk..and spirulina of course!
intense marshmallow (member of the mallow family) herbal tea infusions are especially beneficial for hydrating the face (and the whole body internal.. and external)one of the few moistening herbal teas, very gelatinous..can be mixed with other tea or juices, smoothies, etc.

Jasminerosey where do you get the intense marshmallow? I'm on the spirulina kick and chia seeds and chlorella too. I love it. Boyfriend calls it swamp water. |
Sister Sweets,
the herb i use is the cut and shifted marshmallow root from Mountain Rose herbs. The 'intense' part is the way i make the infusion. about 3/4 cup of root in a mason jar with 1 quart of boiling water, seal the lid tightly and wait 4-8 hours. it's also possible to bring a qrt of water to boil in a pot, add your marshmallow root and cover the pot..the heavier the pot the better..but anuy with a tight fitting lid will do.
it's gelantinous (but so are chia seeds!)...so i usually add mine to other herbal infusions..or to my chia seed/rosehip/nutmilk/spirulina 'pudding'...but it can also be added to fruit or veggie juices or smoothies...the cooler it is the more gelantinous..it's this quality that makes it also soothing for the digestive system..so it's usually recommended to drink at room temp or slightly cool rather than warm
it is one of the few moisturizing herbs (many of them are diuretic and therefore drying to the skin) and is also cooling to the body. i really notice a dif in my skin when i drink it. please let me know, if you decide to try it, how it effects your skin. (you may not need the hydrating quality as much as i do)
(it's also high in calcium, magnesium and other nutrients..in avery highly assimilatable form) |

Hermosa..and Sister Sweete,
I personally use Health Force spirulina (and actually also sell it,along with other especially vital supplements)but in the case of spirulina, because of the quality and integrity of the Pure Planet brand (and the people who began it)and the wonderful price it's offered on Lucky Vitamin, I personally won't suggest spending the extra money for the Health Force brand
Pure Planet, by the way, began with a young sustainable green living, high integrity type fellow (who i had met many times years ago when we were both 'boothing' at holistic expos)who grew, juiced and dried his own green kamut on his own honestly pristine mountain land...and later added his 'home' grown, juiced and dried barley grass powder..and has developed his company, from literally the 'grassroots' up. (that's one of the reasons i prefer it to a large company like Now.. who are not involved with the 'grassroots' aspect of what they market...even though their spirulina may come from the same source and be of equal quality)
Hermosa, it will be interesting to see if you feel a difference among the brands (personally, i would choose the Nutrex brand over Earthrise, you might want to experiment with that brand, also, in the future...i didn't mention it in my previous post cause the PP brand is such good quality for a much better price) |

Hi Tonia - You probably should work your way up to the Tablespoon so you're doing fine. I don't think it matters if you use less water.
I also take powdered MSM and biosil in water and that is downright nasty tasting so I use about 1/2 cup water at the most and throw it back as quick as a person can...
Once you get used to using spirulina and the other sea veggies it's not so bad. I make it part of a morning routine. My reward is coffee. I do the sprirulina/chlorella routine at night too. I'm hoping the other reward will be a more luminous effect. Isn't that what we want? that and a tremendous array of health benefits. The variety of pluses outweigh the negative. |
Have you seen any scientific studies on the benefits of MSM or Biosil in humans? |

I actually like the taste of sea veggies. Fresh seaweed salad is one of my favs. I make a very simple Soba Noodle/Arame/Tofu Miso Soup with Sesame Seeds. A touch of white pepper to spice it up. Yum! I use dulse on everything.
Some of the powdered green drinks can be a little tough to get down. Used to struggle through them, but have settled on Sea Veggie Caps or Sun Chlorella. I like the taste of fresh so much better.
MSM is superior for your hair, skin, nails and joints. 1,000 mg divided is what I take daily. Used to take silica in my younger days, but have found out since that it really doesn't do much. |

Biosil has been clinically tested and shown to reduce fine lines and wrinkles by 19%. It has been shown to strengthen nails and hair. Most importantly, it has been shown to cause a significant increase in bone mineral density.

Darkmoon, thank you for your post. I was really confused when I first read all of that because those warnings mention both silica and horsetail. The BioSil that I am using doesn't contain either of those. I don't know if there is more than one version of BioSil or if there is just some mixed information out there. I did a little more research and found this site.
http://www.wrinkle-free-skin-tips.com/biosil-side-effects.html
The BioSil I am using is manufactured by Natrol, Inc. in Chatsworth, CA.

DM, I didn't even notice that you missed it. I was making sure that StarModel saw it. |

Hi Tonia ,
Yes, Biosil is silicone based and not harmful taken internally, like inhaled silica. There is a difference. Silicone and a silica are basically the same thing. It is micronized silica that can be harmful when inhaled.
My point was that silicone is very plentiful in our food sources and deficiencies are unlikely. I used to take a high quality Silica internally by Natrol called "Hair, Skin and Nails", but have found out that it was mostly a waste of money.
500 1,000 mg of MSM does wonder for the Hair, Skin, Nails & Joints and I find it a much better more effective choice for myself.
I am always fine tuning! |
