Over the last month or so I have been working on my skin care routine and I know I have a long way to go but since I have been tweaking my routine I noticed that I look better with LESS makeup.
I was a little frustrated because I felt like my old makeup routine was looking fake, caked on and did not settle over my new potions so I using less..no more foundation..just a little touch up here and there..powder and blush and mascara..and I think I look better (could this be my imagination)
Anyone else notice this change?
as for skin care..using Clarisonic, vit c and mama lotion (every other day)
emu oil and tozorac.

New Face Disc fan here as well. I wore more makeup in the last two weeks playing with my new toy, than I wore in the last 2 years..
Lou, I bet it's not your 'imagination'. Your taking great care of your skin, and now being rewarded by not finding too much your wanting to cover up.
Let that beauty shine on through girl! |

Oh..I almost forgot about the face disk..that is on my list of WANTS...
I wanted to watch Lauren Huton on the shopping channel and by the time I sat down to watch..the host was saying goodbye to her..the host said "see you in Four months".
FOUR MONTHS!!!! I may have to break down and buy it without seeing her on T.V.
But I have so many other things I want to get first...Lightstim, Derma wand..I need a new camera and a new ipod..I could go on and on..

Hi Lou,
Can you tell me a little bit about your experience with the mama lotion? I bought some samples a few months ago but haven't used them yet? I'm also currently using differin. TIA! |

yes, Lou!
you are right! I also think that healthy beautiful skin is much much better than tons of makeup! All I use now is mascara, lip gloss and a touch of powder. and I`m happy to look that natural.
Moreover, tons of makeup make you look older... |

i agree with you. Less makeup would let the pores "breath" and will look better |

Not to be annoying, but pores cannot "breathe." I just wanted to correct this in the interest of not perpetuating incorrect information.

It's weird...i'm only 24yrs now..but I never thought i'd ever get bored wearing LOTS of makeup. But, I DID lol. It just looks so much nicer when you don't pile on tons of makeup. I have been using the airflash by dior which is pretty much airbrushing in a bottle (spray on foundation). I just spray a little on my arm and use a sponge and put a super light layer to even out my skin tone.
Then just a little blush, mascara..and some lipgloss. Makes a real difference without feeling heavy! |

I think we have all probably heard + used that expression over and over again, about allowing the pores to breathe. I am guilty as well. Even the pro's seem to say it. Here are a couple of quotes;
Dermatology site;
"Washing your face to remove excess oil prevents the pores from being clogged, trapping oil, and forming pimples. If you choose to wear makeup, you should use water-based cosmetics instead of oil based makeup allowing your pores to breathe."
Nu Skin
"Galvanic Spa Pre-Treatment Facial Gel helps remove impurities so your pores can breathe while Galvanic Spa Treatment Facial Gel revives and invigorates tired skin by promoting cellular energy."
Avanya Cosmetics
"Due to the fact that Mineral make-up lies on the skin and forms a physical barrier between the skin and the environment, it is NOT absorbed, it allows the pores to breathe and maintain normal function of the skin."
So cristaline, please don't be offended that I'm sharing these quotes with you. But since wancy_2000 is a brand new member, I don't think anybody would want her to feel intimidated when she'd like to share. |

I don't care how many websites make the statement; PORES CANNOT BREATHE!! Pores do not have lungs. This is basic physiology 101.
Pores cannot open or close, grow or shrink, either...but their appearance can be minimized with exfoliants, astringents, etc. Pore size is largely genetic, although inflammation can cause pores to apear more prominent (as in the orange-peel effect in rosacea).
Not picking on anyone here, either, just wanted to comment on that popular fallacy. |

I totally agree. I look better with less makeup also. I have a new favorite tinted moisturizer, Dermalogica. I don't wear a foundation every day. Daily I wear blush, mascara and a tad on my brows (Smashbox). Lauren Hutton's Face Disc is a must have. Although I don't use it daily I always have it on hand when I want to look my best.
Once we start taking good care of our skin we need less cover-up. |

While I can certainly agree that pores don't actually breathe, I do think the term "pores must breathe" is a useful analogy to underline that pores shouldn't be BLOCKED. Congestion from overly active sebum glands and dead skin cells are one of the primary causes of breakouts and dull skin. |

no more breakouts. PSF, silk powder, Janson Beckett, Cellbone, NIA24 are staples. |

Actually, wearing a foundation can be good for your skin. It's the pollution and gross crap that's terrible for it! But foundation blocks it out!
I personally find most foundations too heavy..but things such as airbrush or mineral makeup is awesome! So not only you get an even skin tone, block out all the nasty pollutants but it feels natural too! Wearing primer though before foundation is super important too..i'm sure most of you know
Mmmm i'm addicted to lipgloss. You know when you are when you wear it even to bed lol, it's pathetic! |

The yellow works for me, and my skin runs the gamut from very pale to pink to sallow.. In other words, it covers a lot of bases.
What color did you order? |

I ordered the yellow as well..Last night, my dh told me Lauren was on t.v. selling her product so I watched a bit of itt. She said she has a friend who mixes the yellow and pink so I figured if the yellow is too dark I can do the same. I just can't wait to get it..

Hi Lou,

I just started using the mama lotion in hopes that it would help with my clogged pores on my nose and chin area..white and black heads. I read (here somewhere) that mandelic acid is good for mature skin. I use it like a mask every other day. I put it on and leave it on for 30 minutes or so then follow it with vitamin c..and s.s..but my next quest is to find a good ss that I can put makeup over... I haven't had any reaction to the mama lotion. But, I have pretty tough skin. I also use Tozorac in the pm..hoping the combination will help improve my clogged pores..

Lou, when I first opened the disc, I thought uh oh, it's too yellow + dark for me. But somehow when I started experimenting, it just worked!
The colors really blend well, and go on much more muted than they look in the disc. Just use a light touch with the 'shading' one, that's a bit more intense.
Have fun! |

What sunscreen do you use under the makeup. I am having a difficult time finding a good sunscreen that doesn't make my make up look greasy and yucky..Lou

I hope you get it soon Lou, I know how anxious you are...
My favorite sunscreens are;
Aveeno Sunblock SPF 30 $9.99 @ CVS
Cetaphil Daily Moisture SPF 15 $9.00 @ CVS
The Aveeno goes on with a whitish cast, but then disapears quickly. The Cetaphil is perfect with makeup, as it is light, and blends right in..
HERE'S THE BIG IMPORTANT BUT THOUGH*** They both have 3% Avobenzone, and shouldn't be used with MMU.. The MMU will degrade the Avobenzone. But any other makeup would work.
If you plan to use a MMU, just use a sunscreen with zinc oxide or the like. It's only the Avobenzone that will be rendered useless with MMU. HTH! |

So you use the mama in the a.m. and wash it off after 30 minutes? I've just started using it this past week in the p.m., alternating nights with the differin. So far, I haven't had a reaction. I'm hoping it will help improve texture and discolorations. Good luck with the SS hunt. I just order Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion 55. Once again, I cross my fingers. I wish I had a nickel for every bottle of SS I've bought and haven't liked. Thanks for your help! |

I totally agree! It took me lots of $$$$ to find out that a couple of drug store varieties, are better than the ones I shelled out $$$$$ before I got smart.
Oh well, we live and learn.. |
