Hi all,
This is my first post. I've been searching for all my questions and am honestly feeling overwhelmed.
I am almost 44 and have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome -- so my collagen is already weak, plus I'm aging.
I have broken capillaries (actually, dilated vessels -- we call them broken, but they're not broken) on and around my nose; acne, and these little bugger filaments that are like blackheads but they kind of come out and stay halfway in and halfway out. Plus, sebaceous hyperplasias.
I had one treatment (VBeam) for the capillaries and it caused scarring -- some divots that became little grooves. It's horrible. My skin was smooth before. I doubt that I can ever have laser again. Plus, the capillaries came back. I believe, but am not sure, that the divots got worse because of my use of Differin after the laser (retinoid). The Differin, BTW, seemed to have made my skin texture worse. I only used it for 3 weeks before I ditched it.
So my skin's a mess, I'm depressed, and I have no idea where to start because I've never had to do much with my skin before midlife acne. I saw another derm, a man who does laser research, and he doubted lasers would even help my caps ever again. He also couldn't really see the scarring, but it's there!!!
So can you help me with a regimen? I am on 50 mg minocyclin plus sulfacetamide 1x per day and Finacea 1x per day but am experiencing breakthrough acne (I think because of a sunscreen I started to use).
I would like to start using products to heal my scarring, maybe take down the redness or heal the caps (if that's possible), remove the filaments, and get my acne under control. BHA did nothing for the filaments. Nothing has so far except manual extraction, but that causes little vessels to show up.
All I've come up with in all of my searching is that Kate Somervile petides may help with the scarring and capillaries. I'm not sure what else to use. I wash with Free & Clear, which is fine but doesn't seem to do much but make my skin squeaky clean. My skin is very sensitive. :(
I'm willing to do most anything to help it.
Please, help? Ideas?
Thank you. |

Have you been to a dermatologist yet? Did he or she have helpful advice? |

Hi and thanks for the replies. I saw a dermatologist who specializes in laser research; he said that the scar I got can happen with too high of settings (though mine was high-normal; the other derm should have started off lower, IMO, though -- he used 8 joules on the VBeam at the outset). He said there's nothing I can do, that the scar is small and not really noticeable. He suggested I try Retina-A for the other issues, but that it might result in more capillaries. So, not really that helpful. He said my skin was otherwise good. So, I don't know. I'm not really that encouraged about trying Retina-A since I think Differin made my issues worse. I'm pretty disappointed. |
