DIY using MSM?

LLucy, the first page of this thread with Lucky Louie's One Stop Serum plus Lorena's take on Lucky Louie's Cream (for fading spider veins) a little further down the page both use/discuss MSM for DIY.

Also, Kassy's Rosacea Cream (for soothing, healing and moisturizing) uses MSM.

I'm not sure if there are others in the DIY Recipe Index but if you have the time, you might be able to find them just by clicking through the links.

It beats anything I could mix up on my own, particularly because it contains microencapsulated MSM, which as far as I know, isn't available from any of the usual DIY ingredient suppliers.

The ingredients sound like such a great combo. The reason I've considered DIY'ing with MSM is because I want to take it as a supplement both for skin and joints. But at that price, the cream is better and likely cheaper than anything I could come up with. Thanks so much for sharing.

FYI, for internal use, I take 2 T daily of "Liquid Glucosamine Chondroitin & MSM" (Nutraceutical Sciences Institute). It has the "OptiMSM", which is thought to be superior to other MSM.

Hmm...I wonder if the topical version would help with my hyperpigmentation?? Question

I do take 2 teaspoons a day orally in my green drink as well.

Bethany, my hyperpigmentation is improved. I have one circular brown "age" spot that is breaking up, and now just has traces of brown. Only problem ... I don't know if it's because of the MSM cream, the MSM liquid, or the Retin A.

Hmmm...very interesting!

How much (and what brand) of the MSM liquid do you take? And how long have you been using Retin A?

I'm wondering which it might be as well!

I also use zinc sunblock, and I think that zinc may help fade hyperpigmentation. Lastly, I mix l-ascorbic acid powder with water every-other-day and apply immediately from head to toe. There may be a synergistic effect at work here.

My hyperpigmentation is the result of sun damage, but here's a link to a discussion about copper levels and how Vit. C, MSM and zinc work on treating melasma.

With regard to tretinoin, I think it's often overlooked how important it is that it be fresh and not have been exposed to heat or light. I only get my Retin A at a local pharmacy now, but really would like to start having it compounded as Tessera mentioned in another thread (she used to get the good stuff from SusanRN), but said she's on her last tube.

Same for Vit C. Heat and light are the enemy of l-ascorbic acid, which begins to degrade almost immediately after adding water. I know you already know all this, Bethany, so this is just general info for others who may be interested. Someone recently suggested putting l-ascorbic acid in the microwave for a minute to get it to dissolve. It may dissolve, but the heat will have also rendered it useless.

Thanks for posting those tips about Vit C Face4ward. I've never tried microwaving a simple C serum, but I microwaved when I've made compound serums that included C to get the other ingredients to dissolve. Duh! (Lucy smacks self's forehead).

When I was taking all these supplements, my face was clean of dark spots, rosy and very nice texture and elasticity.. but.. something happened in my life and I stopped for months.. I am going back to my products and took a picture of my face to show later in the forum because I know whatever was what i was taking works to improve or get rid of hypergimentation.

The supplements i was taking/am taking now:

Vitamin C
Calcium,, Zinc Magnesium
Vitamin D
MSM
Probiotics
Omega 3
Something called "liv-ton" which ingredients are
Turmeric
Artichoke
Dandelion
milk thistle
magnesium

Another called "Super Vision" containing
Bilberry fruit powder extract
lutin
carrot juice powder
rutin
rice flower

I also do my vitamin c serum , wear sunblock and will start retin-a

I am very confident this will work again.. I hope

Do you remember how long you took the supplements before your skin had such great improvements? Can you list how much you took/take of each of them?

I know, because I usually don't wait very long before I jump into the next treatment, so I saw it was working and was very excited.. and I posted it here, since here is where I got all the ideas.
